We would like to acknowledge the significant contributions of Dr. J. Jerald Inico, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science, Loyola College, Chennai. Dr. Inico has been instrumental in establishing? India's first Model Resource Centre for Disability Services (MRCDS) at Loyola College, Chennai in 2009. Morning Session

- Inaugural function with key speakers: Prof. G. Ramamurthy, Rev. Dr. A. Albert Muthumalai, Rev. Dr. S. Peter Xavier, Mr. Ram Agarwal, Dr. S. S. Singh.?

- Conference divided into three tracks: Scientists/Innovators/Researchers/Academicians, Web Designers, Differently-abled/NGOs.

- Talks on “ICT Tools for Expression” by Dr. Rajan Varada (UNESCO), “Setting up Resource Centers” by Dr. Sam Dharapurwala, “Constitutional and Legal Basis of Disability Law” by Prof. Sudhir Krishnasamy, and “Building Communities Online” by Mr. Harish Kotian (RBI).?


- Paper presentation session with 20 selected papers on ICT, Health, Education, and Employment for the differently-abled.

Day 2 – 02-Dec-2009?

- Deliberations on OCR with talks by Dr. Santanu Chaudry, Dr. C. V. Jawahar, Dr. Gurpreet Singh Lehal, and Mr. Dipendra Manocha.?

- Demo on Indian Language OCR by Dr. Tusar Batnaik & Team, CDAC, Noida.?

- Panel discussion where researchers shared experiences.

Day 3 – 03-Dec-2009?

- Focus on TTS (Text To Speech) with talks by Dr. Hema Murthy, Dr. Kishore Prahalad, Mr. Dipendra Manocha, Mrs. Anu Bajpai, Dr. Das Mandal, and Santhosh Thottingal.?

- Live demonstrations enhancing session quality.

Report of Track 2 – Workshop on Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0?

Day 1:?

- Introduction by Mr. Manish on differentiating impairment, disability, and handicap.?

- Sessions on types of disabilities, assistive gadgets, and website accessibility factors.

Day 2:?

- Recap of day one and discussions on WCAG 2.0 by Mr. Rahul.?

- Hands-on exercise designing an accessible website.

Day 3:

- Sessions on Automated and Manual accessibility testing led by Mr. Srinivasu using the 'wave' tool.

Report of Track 3 & 4 – Capacity Building Workshop for the Differently Abled

- Training on basic instructions for day-to-day life and opportunities in education and employment.?

- 37 visually challenged students trained.

- Brainstorming and group discussions on thinking power and goal setting.?

- Training on mobility using the white cane.

Day 3 – 03.12.2009:?

- Focus on Self Observation and SWOT analysis.?

- Training on personal, technical, and communication skills.

Feedback of Track 3 & Track 4 by Balanagendran, a visually challenged III B Com student:

The training provided valuable insights into employment opportunities and personal development. Sessions were interactive, covering areas like mobility, communication skills, and network development.

The Celebration of ‘The International Day for the Person with Disability’ and the Valedictory Function - NCIDEEE 2009

- The event highlighted the achievements and activities of the conference.?

- Delegates and resource persons were awarded certificates.?

- A resolution was made to initiate a new department exclusively for the study of disability.

The NCIDEEE 2009 Conference was successful in raising awareness about the employability of the visually challenged, bridging gaps, creating an inclusive environment, and achieving social integration. The conference highlighted the potential of the differently-abled community in fields like music, data entry, telemarketing, medical transcription, and more.
