National Careers Week 2024: Business Support Insights with S&you.
National Careers Week celebrates the importance of career guidance, awareness, and development for both job seekers and employers. At S&you, we recognise this week each year as a key opportunity to celebrate our candidates successful careers with our clients. Layla Homsi from our Business Support Division shares a story about one of her candidates who is enjoying a successful career with a key client. How this candidates career started, was not on the traditional path.

Careers don’t always have to be linear and sometimes taking a step sideways to take a step up can be a great decision for your career. Being agile and pivoting can also help shape your career. Temp or contract work is a great example of this. If you are struggling to secure a permanent position as you haven’t got the depth of experience the company is looking for, then taking on some temp/contract roles in that field can assist you gain ?that vital experience. Also remember that temp/contract roles can led to a permanent role in that company as it allows you to showcase to the employer all your soft skills and potential while in the temp/contact role.

A great example of this occurred recently with one of our key clients. We met with a candidate who was seeking a permanent position and wanted to move up from a Personal Assistant to an Executive Assistant. Whilst the candidate did not have the experience working at EA level, she was highly motivated and ready to learn. We placed this candidate into a 3 month ?temp assignment as an PA but with some additional support to the MD. ?This ?gave her the necessary experience and confidence working at the more senior level. After the 3 months a permanent EA position was offered to the candidate and her career continues to go from strength to strength!
