National Bookmobile Day

Ernest Hemingway once said "There is no friend as loyal as a book", and this quote still ignites the spirits of many. Books are the epitome of knowledge, facts, and stories inscribed in some papers bound together to enlighten the world. A book can infuse you with stories that aren't even yours as well as provide a retreat. From science to spirituality, there is absolutely no realm a book can't teleport you to. Hence, books are the most significant aspect of our being.?

However, not everyone is privileged enough to possess these valuable assets. Reasons like mobility, financial matters, lack of aid, and ignorance, keep several from the boon of wisdom. In predicaments like these, many curious minds are compelled to surrender to their circumstances. So, what could be a better deed than taking these gems of knowledge to the doorsteps of those in need? With this thought and generosity in mind, the first-ever mobile library was introduced in 1857 in Cumbria, North West England. It aimed to enhance the lending of its books to enthusiastic local patrons.

At present, mobile libraries have solidified themselves throughout the world. The excitement and joy these wagons bring with them to niches, especially trivial towns, and backward areas are unrivalled. Inspired by these mobile libraries, several innovative endeavours like bibebus, the floating library, logos hope, and tram library have been initiated all across the globe.?

We at Enactus Dyal Singh College, through our Project Pragya, have been striving to deliver quality education to the neglected sections of society. To further achieve our purpose, we aim to incorporate the concept of moving libraries into our initiative and bridge the educational gap in rural areas.

As books are not just books but a stance of dreams, their availability to all must be ensured!
