National Black Marketers Day - We did it!!!!

Welcome back to my not-so-weekly newsletter. I've been booked and busy, slaying dragons before my annual Personal Retreat. What the hell is a Personal Retreat - well, it's a time that I take 3 days to myself, locked in a hotel (or cabin) and map out my next year (+ reflect on my accomplishments, too). I've been doing this since 2018 and it's an amazing time to recharge; it's usually the first Saturday through Monday of December and yes, I turn my phone OFF. Anywho, I wanted to make sure y'all knew that I didn't neglect you, I'm having to focus on my craft a little more these days.
Y'all - my heart is SO full! Yesterday, Black Marketers Coalition and hundreds of #blackmarketers celebrated our 2nd National Black Marketers Day.
When I founded the BMC, it truly was to create meaningful relationships between Black marketers. That was the premise and our glue to this day. There are so many groups, and I truly value each of them - some of them focus on career building, some focus on conferences and upskilling, and some focus on intersectionality. For us, we build relationships first and do business second. That's our motto and I love what we're building (I really do, y'all!).
Last year, some of my founding members came together and brainstormed how we can make a lasting impact. Yes we have our show IYKYK , yes we have our Groupme for Black marketers to communicate organically, yes we have social media for shenanigans, and yes we share a lot of thoughts with each other and the industry. But something was missing and we landed on a holiday. One that isn't about just us, but the full #marketing ecosystem.
After all, it's bigger than just us.
Yesterday, the BMC pages kept getting tagged and mentioned and I wasn't sure why. Well, that press release from last year picked back up somehow, and the message spread (woo hoo!). Look at this super cool timeline that was created by National Today :

This year, Black marketers created reels , Youtube videos , Instagram posts , and so much more to celebrate their accomplishments, honor our pioneers, and even shout each other out.
THANK YOU all for celebrating #NationalBlackMarketersDay in every way you did. We hope that year 3 brings even more visibility, celebrations, and appreciation for our contributions.
As for me, I celebrated by meeting up with a few other marketers over drinks, before heading to enjoy my amazing seats at the Atlanta Hawks game (who's CMO is a Black woman - can't ya tell! Get it girl!).
I enjoyed a halftime performance by one of my favorite artists, Jeezy...and didn't enjoy losing to the Celtics (no, we're not going to talk about it). Oh, and of course, sported my fave Black-owned purse designer, Brandon Blackwood...big purr!
I'll leave you with this question - what did you do to celebrate #NBMD this year OR what do you plan to do for it next year?
