As it is National BBQ Week!

When watching Marcus Wareing's new TV series about his small farm in Kent, the big metal BBQ that he uses to cook ingredients from his garden inspired me. I searched and found some on the internet. Too pricey, so I looked at getting it made for me. I had one quote which was silly, so I kept searching. I found a guy based in Ryde who has just started his own business. Crafted by Jim can be found on FB. If anyone contacts him, please mention me.

Following two meetings to discuss my design and Jim's reality check on what was possible, we agreed the design, the type of metal for the frame, all the stuff he needed to get on with the project. He posted some photos on FB as he was going. Then we went over to see the end product. It was just spot welded together so that we could see if there were any issues that needed fixing before he put it all together. A week later Jim delivered The BBQ, and I spent a couple of weeks painting it with heat resistant paint.

Finally, it was moved from the garage to the patio in time for a family gathering. The BBQ is fabulous and works perfectly for the first time of asking!

What I learnt from this project are that you can get something you want and to your specification by finding local artisans who have the skills and experience to work with clients to create the best result! Plus, it is handmade, and I have supported a new small local business. It is also unique!

It's one of the best projects I have worked on. It is also something I can use to create new recipes using local ingredients!

I am looking forward to many more BBQs this summer and years ahead!
