National Apprenticeship Week

This National Apprenticeship Week, we are celebrating the great apprentices we have here at Mid Sussex District Council.

First up, we sat down with Peter Davies, Trainee Planning Officer at Mid Sussex District Council, to ask him about his role within the council.

What inspired you to pursue an apprenticeship?

It was a great opportunity to gain experience whilst also furthering my education at the same time and to have support from the council.

Share a moment that fuelled your passion for planning and led you to this apprenticeship

Having worked in planning admin before, I enjoyed learning more about planning. Wanting to become a planning officer, this was a great opportunity to start dealing with my own applications whilst also learning and once I have completed my Masters an opportunity to gain RTPI membership.

What aspects of the apprenticeship programme do you enjoy the most?

I enjoy planning related discussions with other apprentices on my course who work at other local authorities.

How do you feel apprenticeships will benefit the council?

It is beneficial to encourage those early in their careers to choose the council while getting further support.

Would you recommend pursuing an apprenticeship to others? Why? Why not?

Definitely! It has been very beneficial learning whilst also working as they have both benefited the other and to further my progress.
