What does your day-to-day role look like?
My day-to-day role starts off getting into work 10 to 15 minutes early before my shift starts and getting the systems logged on and the place heated up. I then put the kettle on and make the other staff a cuppa.
Once this is done, I will then grab the PPI sheets and start to go round the warehouse carrying out the mini stock checks based on products the PPI sheets state to count. Once I’ve done the PPIs I will then go back into the main sales counter area and help serve the morning rush from Lincoln City Council operatives.
Alongside serving customers that are coming in throughout the day, my afternoon consists of taking in deliveries and restocking the shelves. A big part of what we do is ensuring customers have enough products on their van to service their jobs so I also ensure we have all the operative van stock sheets together with all the products they need. When it comes near to the end of the day I will then walk around the warehouse making sure it’s tidy, making sure the bins are empty and all hazards that could cause trips and slips are removed – essentially, making sure we’re ready for the next day to commence.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
For me, what I enjoy most about my role is learning new things about products and what they are used for. I also like speaking to new people and this job is a great way of building a more suitable customer relationship, because I speak to so many people on a daily basis.

What do you hope to do with the skills you've learnt in the future?
With everything I have learnt, what I would like to do in my future is to continue creating great relationships with internal customers and external customers, to help the business grow as well as helping my own career progression in the company.
By carrying on learning and developing on what I have already learnt, I see myself working my way up in the business and in a few years’ time being a branch assistant manager or supervisor.

Where did you find out about the apprenticeship?
I found this job/apprenticeship through indeed after I was sent the application by my parent. I've been a part of the JPS team since February 2023.
