Not by impeachment. Or meat vs. plant burgers. Today, we fought about Cybertruck.
Ridiculous. Cool. A joke. I want one. Those were some of the words we heard about Tesla’s radically shaped pickup truck. Cheddar’s Hope King was among those to first see it in person and even get a quick ride in the back seat. She’s still wondering, “Is this thing for real?”
We spent a lot of time pondering the future of the automobile this week. Ford took a bold leap into the electric vehicle world with its reimagined Mustang SUV. And electric vehicles seemed to be the central theme of the Los Angeles Auto Show, where Cheddar’s Alyssa Julya Smith spent most of Wednesday.
Audi debuted its all-electric 2020 e-tron Sportback, which, tbh, might be a little easier on the eyes than the Cybertruck. Speaking of eye-candy, Volkswagen showed off a sleek electric ID. Space Vizzion, which might be the best-looking station wagon we’ve ever seen.
Land Rover brought the Defender SUV back to the U.S. after a 22-year absence, this time with gas-electric hybrid engine options. Plus, Toyota introduced its first plug-in hybrid Rav4.
Despite the intense focus on EVs, we still saw a few fossil-fuel burners, like the BMW M8 Gran Coupe, with a base price of $130,000, and the (gulp) $192,000 Aston Martin DBX SUV.
With prices like those, Elon Musk’s new wedge-shaped concoction is looking a lot more appealing with its starting price under $40,000.
