Nation Building, The Right Way
The Marshall Plan. An Act to promote world peace and the general welfare, national interest, and foreign policy of the United States through economic, financial, and other measures necessary to the maintenance of conditions abroad in which free institutions may survive and consistent with the maintenance of the strength and stability of the United States. In 1948 we didn't just try to rebuild one nation, we tried to reestablish a world order in Western Europe, not justs for our allies but for our former enemies as well.
It is time to stop the slogans and get to work to really create governments in the Middle East and other parts of the world that are teetering on the brink of anarchy and threatening our way of life. In 1948 we invested the equivalent of $130 Billion in present dollars to keep communism at bay by making our friends strong again, establish free trade and restore working governments and working economies.
We must put aside what we think is best and find out what the people of the region, all the people, want, push them to the table and get them to talk to each other and then stand behind their decisions with real dollars, where appropriate and real guidance from our statesmen and our industries. We must do this or there will be no hope in the world and with no hope, ISIS and its brothers in arms will only get stronger.
