Natasha Veerasawmy, BondedThruCancer, becomes AfyaRekod’s UK ambassador

In 2014 Natasha Veerasawmy was diagnosed with aggressive Stage 3 Breast Cancer, something her older sister, Allana had been fighting for three years already.

?“My life changed on February 13, 2014 in the blink of an eye when I was told I had the Big C.???My feelings were all over the place.?At this point we had two others before us go through this ugly disease. Our mother, and her youngest sister, our aunt, had fought only a few years before my sister was diagnosed,” said Veerasawmy of the diagnosis.

?In 2016, following a seven year fight, Allana passed away. Fuelled by her sister’s death, her own pain and the pain of many other family members being diagnosed and dying from cancer, she decided to do something positive and make a change. In 2016 she founded grass roots charity BondedThruCancer which hopes to ensure no one faces this deadly disease alone and has support through their journey with cancer.

?“One of the most important things I remember through my diagnosis with cancer was to keep a positive mind set, because I had three strong women in the family go through cancer before me, so I used this as a reference to survival.”????????

?As with anyone facing cancer Veerasawmy has a long list of consultations, ?operations, medical interventions and prescriptions to her name, all stored on various doctors’ and hospitals’ databases.?Knowing how important real-time, secure access to these medical records is, Veerasawmy fully supports the AfyaRekod Universal Patient Portal, becoming an official ambassador in 2022.
