NAR National Conference -Boston

Landed in Logan airport on Wednesday afternoon and I walk right into the bubble that encapsulates a national conference. The premier event for our profession in North America, there truly is nothing out there like it. Somewhere north of 26,000 attendees rolled into downtown Boston to learn what are the trends and happening in real estate for 2018/19. If you did not have a chance to attend I took some time in the airport lounge to bring you up to speed on some of the topics that affect commercial real estate.

New Tax options for qualified business deductions- 199A is in play for you, a full 20% of pass through potential is up for grabs. New talks about an Indexing of Capital Gains due to inflation is also gaining momentum in DC. Talk to your CPA now and it could save you some serious money come April.

Opportunity Zones are trending in a big way, offering new ways to invest in real estate and still allow for the deferment of capital gains to a later date. Full list of Opportunity zones are now available along with investment and tax rules. The Treasury has finally laid out the opportunity regulations and people are excited. Find more details online or contact your local EDC for more details. Teya Moore CCIM of the DC area is a wealth of knowledge on the subject, he must be a lawyer or something.

MIPIM- lets go to France!! Some big USA based companies are heading to France in the spring to attend and speak about global real estate and how they roll out around the world. The heads of global real estate for both Microsoft and Wework will be busy on a main stage panel and some smaller talks in the USA Pavilion throughout the week. #VivaLaFrance

Demos for a potential new national MLS systems were made available at the NAR conference. If you did not get a chance to see the demos this past week please go visit Catalyst, CREXI and Bravitas and let me know your thoughts. Did you like the layout, data points, other basic information and ability to market your deals? Get in on chance to make your opinions or choice now before its too late.

Local CCIM chapter hosts networking event and CCIM shows up with its full leadership team- current as well as the next 3 years of presidents and their new CEO networked the room. This should happen more often when national conferences are hosted in your cities.

HQ2- Did we get a hint of the Amazon sweepstakes winner this week? KC Conway the CCIM economist gave a great talk about the RFP process and potential winner. Did Crystal City VA. win this round or was this just click bait.

WeWork hosted the Commercial reception again this year and filled the place with NAR commercial members. Amazing view of Boston Commons and the newest location in the arsenal of the largest co-working player in the game.

Delivered a presentation discussing potential uses of blockchain in real estate to techie and not techie brokers alike. Great feed back and support from everyone, its no longer an "if" that blockchain is making its way into our business but rather "when" you will see it. Hint - you are already seeing it but you just don't know it.

Jean Maday— that women is all courage all the time- thank you for doing what you do and the beautiful, confident and professional way in which you do it.

Buzz words of the week : #Blockchain #Opportunity Zones #Tax Reform

Thanks for the update!? I'm excited about the new MLS system and hope it is fully integrated soon.? I have to think that CREXI has the upper hand since they already have the greatest distribution.? I like their platform.??
