Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) technologies help researchers understand gene activity in individual cells. Recent advancements offer various options, complicating the choice of technology. A systematic comparison of nine commercial scRNA-seq kits was conducted using a common reference sample from a single donor for consistency. The analysis evaluated cost, protocol duration and performance metrics at the library, gene and cell levels. This framework provides a basis for future assessments of emerging methods across diverse sample types. With data from over 169?000 cells, this study aids researchers in selecting a suitable scRNA-seq technology, paving the way for advancements in single-cell biology.
