The Napkin

"All you have to do is take each corner and place it on your lap."
Jeremy looked up at his granny and smiled. It was time to play. He picked the napkin up by the corners and thrusted his arms forwards like his daddy used to do. As the napkin unfurled in front of him and covered the view of his granny, he closed his eyes.
There he was, on top of Mount Everest, dancing from side to side. He locked into his skies and floated down the slope past all the slow coaches and penguins. When he finally caught up with his mum, he asked her why the sky was always blue when he saw her.
"Well, blue is the colour of the sea
It's the uniform your dad wears in the navy
It's not purple, it's not red
But when you go to bed
It's the colour of your teddy Tweedle Dee
Blue can be a sign of feeling down
When you have a party with no clown
It's in the dress I like to wear
When my nurse comes really near
It's even in the walls, just look around
Blue stands out from other lights
It's even behind the darkness of the nights
But when you look into the sky
And know I am by your side
Blue is your magic shining bright
Shall we talk about yellow tomorrow my love?"
Jeremy smiled and nodded. He skidded at the bottom of the slope and looked up.
"Not like that Jeremy. On your lap... how am I supposed to do this on my own?"
Jeremy smiled at his granny.
"You're not on your own. Mummy will tell me about yellow tomorrow."
The Flamingo Advantage
Stories, like the one above and the numerous, magnificent, compelling, thought provoking stories you have shared this week make us stand out. You write your way about the subjects dear to you. Sometimes, we need to look within to see what makes us different. Flamingos show what they eat on the outside so you can see a bit of what they're like within and they're all the more magnificent for it. Katie Hornor explains this much better than I ever could in Episode 18 of Series 3 of the Storytelling with Puck Podcast. Click the link below to listen:
