“Napitism”
“With great power... comes great need to take a nap. Wake me up later.”
Greetings from the sunshine state. I’ll throw some plantains into this soup. We got up and packed yesterday; GG was down with Jimmy Chu, Parker Van Halen thought Jimmy was a puppy, but Jimmy is an 11-year-old smaller dog that just wants to be left alone. I’ll get an update later today; as of last night, everyone was passed out.
We took an Uber from our home to the airport; the young man said things had slowed recently; I found that interesting. We arrived at the airport and headed through the TSA, we went to our old restaurant, and it is now closed, so we visited the Sun King Brewery for some lunch and found an old friend. Imogene has been our bartender at the old stop for four years. We made many friends during our four years of weekly travel between IN and CO. She acted like she had seen a ghost. Oh my God, I’ve been wondering about you guys!
We got a table; the airport was about 50% of its heyday but still functioning. Many of the restaurants are closed, but there is enough to get by. We caught up with our friend, found out she did not fare well during the pandemic, not a lot of work, but she did have a pretty good idea. Instead of giving everyone money, please share it with the elderly and those with compromised immune systems. Let the rest of us work and take our chances. Most people I think want to work; that has been a 2020 discovery. Work gives life value.
The plane was full, not an empty seat on the 837. No booze, just water, and some crackers, we both took a nap, and I listened to an audiobook while my Queen read a book given to us by Bay. It’s called Trejo’s Taco’s and Danny Trejo; the actor has some mad Tacko making skills.
We landed about 1:00; the airport was buzzing; we got an UBER who shared she had been swamped lately. I found that interesting. We arrived at our resort, got checked in, and began walking to our rooms. A few masks dotted the property, but most were sans masks keeping their distance. We got a drink, sat on the beach, put our feet in the sands, and just thought about the past 12 months, the gifts, lessons, and blessings we have between us.
We met our cousin for dinner. They had pizza. I had what was described as fish and chips on the menu, but I think a better description might have been a big block of batter. Very little white fish, but the chips were good. I was feeling a little English. We walked back to our resort; there is a curfew here at midnight; since we are in bed by 9:00 every night, that rule won’t impact our stay; Allen Clark always said, “nothing good happens after midnight.” That might be a rule they want to keep once the world is healed.
We will work this morning; I have a couple of appointments out west to catch up with some friends and clients with needs. We might go to the Hard Rock Casino this afternoon and get some pedicures and a massage. This getaway is our vacation, time to wind down this year and get excited for next year.
A friend reached out the other day; he found out we hired one of our kids. He said, “are you worried about nepotism?” I said, “nepotism, hell, we hired her for “napitism.” As she and the other youngsters get rocking, we get to take more naps! I come from a napping family. We like the 20-minute recharge, my Queen and I have perfected this art; it’s a good practice as your body ages.
This year will be my 29th year in my industry at The Thompson Group. I started buying it from my father on Jan 1, 1996, which means I’ve owned it for 25 years. Twenty-nine years in the same company with basically the same job. I must share a secret; when I started, I had no clue what I was doing. But after a few punches in the nose and finding some good people, our firm began to take off.
The key to my success was partnering with my Queen; she’s much smarter than I. I think she is the most beautiful woman in the world; she has mad skills. I’m here to give my input when needed. Anymore, my information is only on the sales and marketing fronts; she and our operations manager make many of the significant decisions. I’m plugged in on an as-needed basis. If they need me, I’m here.
It’s good to be me; I’m not bragging. I’ve worked hard to be where I am and will enjoy the remaining time on this planet. My future is filled with opportunities to help others, see our family grow, and enjoy living on the top of a mountain. We are here until Saturday and then return home. We will work another two weeks before heading west; the home remodel is going well; our builder called yesterday; there was a flooring crew working on Christmas. The photos we get are banging; our home will become a destination for thought leaders.
I can watch the daily sunrise on my phone. I set up a RING that runs all the time; I can dial up the app and watch as the sunrise; it’s fantastic, and give’s me a quick look home. Our cats are still at the condo, I had Nate and Cam check on them, and then my friend K.C. hit them one more time with food and water before Bay arrives back to be their steward. We get texts daily, “CLM, you got a damn dog, we are here, and you are with the dog,” etc. There may or not be a feline uprising once we all return to the mountain house. They are not happy!
Well, enjoy this day, it’s nice here, we will get some breakfast, then I’ll run my calls. An afternoon of bliss, and I’m going out on a date with my Queen tonight. A romantic dinner on the beach and then some alone time with this cougar. May I get on your prayer chain?
