A Way of Thinking That Inspires Your Future
Robb Holman
Global Speaker & Best-Selling Author who inspires leaders to lead from the inside out.
It has always intrigued me that when someone passes away or a chapter of life concludes, we not only grieve the loss but also what that person or season represented to us. However, I’ve discovered that when I reflect on these things with a heart full of gratitude, new life emerges from the midst of loss.
That is how it’s been since I heard the news about Abdul.
It doesn’t mean we completely move on, but it can propel us into a new chapter, building upon the lessons of the past. This mindset becomes a source of inspiration for our future.
Consider this age-old question: Is your glass half empty or half full?
In a recent poll I conducted, 19% of the people identified as pessimistic, 70% as optimistic, and 11% as other. A pessimistic person tends to expect the worst in any situation, while an optimistic person anticipates a positive outcome in the future. Now let’s imagine that a challenging event occurs.
The pessimistic person might say, “I told you so!” while the optimistic person may say, “Tomorrow will be a brighter day!” Who is right?
Perhaps it’s not about being right or wrong but rather about allowing our reality to inspire our future. Ronald Siegel once said, “It’s one thing to think positively about your future and another to be inspired by reality.”
This is where present thinking comes into play. By anchoring ourselves in the present reality, acknowledging our real-time feelings, and simultaneously embracing a state of gratitude—even in challenging circumstances— we naturally pave the way for a positive outcome.
Reflection
How can you cultivate gratitude and present thinking to inspire my future, especially during challenging times?
