A Nando's Story about Positivity and Dedication

A Nando's Story about Positivity and Dedication

From Bhutan to Nando's New Zealand:

Meet Preeti Sharma : Restaurant Manager, Nando's Partner and "Spirit of Nando's" Award Winner!

In 2018, a young woman from Bhutan made a bold move to New Zealand, embarking on a new chapter without knowing a single person. What began as a solo adventure has since become a journey of personal growth and career progression. Having previously worked in India and Bhutan's Finance industry, Preeti was craving a new adventure. She arrived with a passion for hospitality and a determination to build something new. While studying Travel and Hospitality, she worked part-time as a shift supervisor at a restaurant until losing her job in 2020 due to COVID.

Her friends were passionate fans of Nando’s and encouraged her to submit an application. That marked the beginning of her incredible journey at Nando’s. Starting as a shift leader in Rotorua, Preeti quickly rose through the ranks. Moving to Hamilton, she became an Assistant Restaurant Manager, and for nearly two years now, she has proudly held the role of Restaurant Manager.

For Preeti, working at Nando’s has been more than just a job—it has shaped her life in meaningful ways.? Nominated twice for the "Life and Soul Award," she always believed bigger things were ahead. This year, she became the first Nando’s Partner in New Zealand and received the "Spirit of Nando’s Award" 2024 for Customer Excellence which she describes as one of her career highlights.

Beyond the delicious food, what Preeti loves most about Nando’s is the people-focused culture. Whether it’s the employees or the customers, there is always a sense of care and inclusivity. Nando’s offers paid parental leave, career development and free meals during shifts. During the COVID lockdowns, Nando’s even continued to pay employees their full salaries, when the restaurants were closed.

As a leader, Preeti fosters a positive, team-oriented atmosphere in her restaurant. Many customers are drawn to the welcoming environment, asking for jobs for their children in her restaurant. Preeti's leadership style is rooted in empathy, teamwork, and continuous learning. She encourages her team by offering daily feedback, celebrating successes, and maintaining a fun, stress-free environment. According to her team, “Preeti is always in a good mood, spreading positive vibes! She always takes care of us and is very approachable.”

Preeti’s journey at Nando's is a sizzling story of how taking risks and dedication pay off. Her philosophy? Lead by example, work hard, and—above all—be happy.?

Wrapping it up, we ask Preeti about her go-to Nando's order. Her response??

"? chicken leg piece with hot and extra hot basting mix with some peri salt sprinkled on top."

Congrats! Very energetic career growth. I have experienced similar job as a restaurant assistant manager. It's really hard to keep you on your toes all the time. A restaurant is a living industry and it has to keep it alive in all terms.
