Nancy Njau’s Odyssey to the Helm.
Step by step, Nancy Njau has broken the glass ceiling to sit at the helm of Family Bank Ltd as the Chief Executive Officer. Hers has been a gradual ascent, culminating in the top seat, well earned.
Her appointment adds to the number of women at the pinnacle of corporate leadership in the country. They have broken the glass ceiling and, while at it, are transforming their organizations, charting a new path of profitability, sustainability, and growth.
Nancy Njau’s journey to the pinnacle started at Kenyatta University, where she pursued a Bachelor of Commerce degree, majoring in Accounting and a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) with a focus in Strategic Management from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. She also holds a Higher Diploma in Human Resource Management. Besides, she is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K) and a Certified Executive Leadership Coach.
Her commitment to professional development is apparent. She has undertaken or participated in various courses, including Performance Management, Credit Management, Transformational Leadership, and Customer Service, among others.
Her journey to the top has been consistent. She started as a graduate clerk back in 2002, a position she held for five years. Later, she was promoted to be the Regional Manager in March 2013. Three years later, she was named the Bank’s Head of Retail Banking, a position she held for over two years. Before being appointed as the Bank’s CEO, she was the Head of Strategic Partnerships, a role she took up in May 2019.? Over time, Nancy has had a remarkable stint earning credit for her tangential role in driving the bank’s growth, innovation, and customer service.
She now joins the handful number of female CEOs in Kenya’s commercial banking sector. Notably Nasim Devji at Diamond Trust Bank, Betty Korir at Credit Bank, Anne Karanja at Kenya Post Office Savings Bank, and Joyce Ann Wainaina at Citibank Kenya. They are turning wheels and leaving a mark in the financial sector.
