Namibia Oil and Gas Conference Unpacking.
We attended several key events in Namibia, including the Namibia International Energy Conference (NIEC), Namibia Local Content Conference (NLCC), Swaitex 2024, Namibia Mining Expo 2024 (NME), and the Namibia Oil & Gas Conference (NOGC). Back on March 30, 2024, we shared why attending NIEC and NLCC was important.
The NOGC was a blend of both, with over 900 participants, featuring a strong local (60%) and international (40%) presence. The event had the support of key state institutions.
For those who couldn’t attend, here are our key takeaways.
The 2024 Namibian Oil and Gas Conference painted a vibrant picture of Namibia’s future as it gears up to become a major player in the global energy game. With recent discoveries off its coast and a firm commitment to sustainable growth, the country is positioned at the dawn of an exciting era—where oil and gas are not just about fuel but the fuel for national prosperity and transformation.
Namibia's Energy Awakening
Namibia is no longer just famous for its breathtaking landscapes and wildlife—now, the world is watching as it steps into the energy spotlight. The discovery of vast oil and gas reserves in the Orange Basin has sparked a wave of optimism, setting the stage for Namibia to become a key energy powerhouse. But this isn’t just about drilling for oil; it’s about using these resources to create a brighter, more prosperous future for every Namibian.
A Vision Beyond Wealth
Namibia’s leaders have made it clear: this journey isn’t just about wealth. It’s about building a better nation—one that thrives on diversity, innovation, and opportunity. Picture a future where a booming oil and gas industry powers not just the economy but healthcare, education, and culture, lifting everyone along the way. It’s not just a dream; with the right strategy, it’s the nation’s roadmap to real, lasting prosperity.
The "Oil Commandments" Leading the Way
Guiding this journey are Namibia’s newly established “oil commandments,” a set of principles designed to ensure the country's resources benefit everyone. These commandments focus on energy independence, sustainable practices, and equitable distribution of wealth. Namibia is determined not to repeat the mistakes of other nations, ensuring that its people—every one of them—reap the rewards of this natural bounty.
Global Partnerships with Purpose
International oil companies are lining up to be part of this story. But in Namibia, they’re not just here to drill. These companies are expected to partner with the nation, bringing in new jobs, skills, and community investments. It’s a win-win—global expertise meets local potential in a collaboration designed to lift Namibia to new heights.

Building from the Ground Up
At the heart of this movement is Namibia’s own national oil company, which plays a critical role in reinvesting profits and ensuring sustainable growth. The country is focused on onshore gas processing, banning wasteful flaring practices, and pushing forward with cutting-edge infrastructure projects. Namibia is not just thinking big; it's acting fast, determined to turn potential into progress.
Balancing Development with Sustainability
But it’s not just about growth at all costs. Namibia is walking a tightrope between ambitious development and environmental stewardship. The country is writing a new energy story—one where economic growth and environmental sustainability go hand-in-hand. Namibia’s commitment to protecting its natural beauty while building a prosperous future makes its journey all the more compelling.
Racing Toward the Future
Namibia is racing against time, with a Gas Master Plan in the works to establish itself as Africa’s energy hub. The country knows it needs to act quickly—global energy doesn’t wait. But with smart planning, the right partnerships, and a strong vision, Namibia is positioning itself to seize the moment and become a leader in sustainable energy.
An Unfolding Energy Epic
What we’re witnessing is nothing short of a national transformation—a saga of discovery, innovation, and opportunity. Namibia’s oil and gas sector holds the promise of a better tomorrow, not just for a few, but for every citizen. The future is uncertain, yes, but the potential is undeniable. If Namibia’s leadership stays true to its vision, the country will not just participate in the global energy industry—it will lead it.
In short, Namibia’s oil and gas journey is an adventure worth following. As the country steps confidently into the global spotlight, it’s clear that the road ahead is filled with promise. This isn’t just about energy—it’s about empowerment, and Namibia is setting sail toward a future where prosperity and sustainability go hand in hand. The world is watching, and Namibia is ready to deliver.
Conclusion from the perspective of a local content company : Namibia offers immense opportunities, but success requires understanding and adhering to the rules set by the owners of the resources. Melanie Harrison from Deloitte Namibia delivered an insightful presentation on the readiness of local companies to participate in the oil and gas (O&G) supply chain. Contrary to the common narrative that local companies lack the necessary knowledge, technology, HSE awareness, skills, capability, or capacity, her assessment highlighted that while Namibian companies may not yet fully meet industry requirements, they are certainly not starting from scratch.
We look forward to next year's conferences, where we expect to see continued progress in Namibia's readiness and further improvements in the O&G business landscape.
