I read last week that having a named house on the address adds value to the property and it started me thinking why this should be. Houses that have connection with the location such as a mill stream or bakery are easy to understand how they got their name but others appear quite obscure, my own being one in question. Mine is called Grantas Dene, always has done since 1936 when it was built but nobody local can remember why! Having delved into name meanings I have drawn a blank so if any of my LindedIn connections that have an idea I would love to know what it means.
The added value from a named house could just be down to the fact that buyers love the idea of being an individual not a number or the romantic connotations connected with the name itself from time passed. Another question springs to mind, does a quirky oddball name devalue the property? Do property valuers take this into consideration when conducting an appraisal.
There is however one group of people who actually hate named houses, and I can testify first hand on this, and that's delivery guys! I have lost count of the angry phone calls from them when they can not find your house after driving up and down the road ten times, first words from them is usually "get a bl**dy number" or something similar.
So, do you think a name adds value to a property?
