A name. A logo. A new beginning
Coming up with a name for a company may seem like an easy task, but trust me, it is never easy - see my previous post. Finding a name that matches your vision/story, has an available domain name, and strikes a chord with your team, is tough. So after deliberating over a month, tossing n turning over five different names, going through multiple rounds of surveys (including one with my 4th grader son and his friends), we decided on ‘Strikedeck’.
Strikedeck, is about striking the deck hard, striking a chord, striking while the iron is hot, and most importantly, striking for success.
Now my son went one step further, he said “Dad, symbol is going to be STDK” :) He always has been a bigger dreamer than me :-) .
The next step was doing the logo. We knew we wanted to go with a blue shade, and the first design we came up with, looked like this:
But the team rejected this as being too soft not distinct enough. So, we went back to drawing board and tried a few variations.
These didn't work either, so we sent our designer back to the drawing board. To put it mildly, after many iterations, feedback sessions and surveys, we identified a font and a shade that was contemporary, subtle and yet conveyed the passion with which we are about to embark on our next venture.
We were making progress!
All that remained was a mascot. We wanted one that would represent our passion, focus and relentlessness. We wanted an animal, preferably a bird, as they tend to be memorable and add to the brand appeal, as demonstrated by Evernote’s elephant, Hootsuite’s owl and Twitter’s bird. We quickly zeroed in on the woodpecker.
The woodpecker (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woodpecker) is known for pecking holes into tree trunks in order to reach insects living in crevices in the bark. Their bills, tongues and skulls are highly adapted to the task at hand. Above all, the woodpecker is renowned for its relentlessness - they will keep drilling away until they get to their meal. We wanted this quality to symbolize us. (OK, growing up watching Woody Woodpecker biased us, but just a bit).
Our logo was now beginning to take shape.
We were converging on the overall design. But our logo had to be vibrant. It had to reflect our energy. It had to fly. This time, it was much easier.
Presenting our logo and our new venture!
We cant wait to tell you more, but we are already busy, so we will have to come back to it. Stay tuned.

9 年Shreesha, logo and mascot is good . Regarding the mascot , my suggestion is woodpecker instead pecking just square , it will good pecking on the object which is vision or concept
