Name, Image, Love Vol.10: HEARING the Same Thing

Industry News?

  • In an ESPN article on NIL contracts with schools, experts say that they have employment and pay-for-play all over them?

My Thoughts?

  • Last week was the 11th hearing on Capitol Hill regarding NIL, and as I mentioned, people who attended said the conversations were must of the same, and if you read about hearing 1-10, you didn’t even need to know about hearing number 11. A lot of the same rhetoric was said with most pushing for the NCAA to have an anti-trust exemption. The conclusion that many came away with was that this is not going to happen.?

  • As the April 4th date of the expected final approval of the House settlement approaches, one should pay attention to the legal happenings and motions behind the scenes. While there haven’t been many objectors to the settlement, there have been some high profile objectors who could potentially have major influence if they testify against the settlement. Judge Wilken has issued a reminder to the objectors that she cannot substantively make changes to the proposed settlement (i.e. that she can’t say athletes should get more money) however, she said that the objectors should focus on why the Court should object the settlement and set the case for trial. It will be interesting to watch how this all plays out, but in my opinion the settlement will be approved and go forward. However, crazier things have happened. ??

Conclusion?
