The Naked Negotiator: Demystifying Salary Negotiations for Professionals Worldwide

The Naked Negotiator: Demystifying Salary Negotiations for Professionals Worldwide

If you’re ready to negotiate for a higher salary, this week’s featured episode is for you!?

Based in the UK, negotiation expert and management consultant Michael Phillips has over thirty years of experience negotiating major corporate deals, especially in procurement.?

In this episode, “The Naked Negotiator: Demystifying Salary Negotiations”, Michael applies the framework from some of his biggest corporate deals to individual salary negotiations. This is also the foundation for his book The Naked Negotiator, which is designed to be a digestible and relatable read for anybody looking to build confidence and ask for a salary increase.

So where do we start??

With preparation, of course.?

It’s easy for people to underestimate how important preparation is to your confidence, which is oftentimes our biggest barrier to conversations about salary. Due to a lack of confidence, we feel too afraid to even initiate or request the conversation.?

So if you want more, you need to ask for more. Asking for more requires confidence.

Confidence requires preparation.

Michael recommends beginning with understanding how you are situated in the marketplace. Make your search as specific as possible. Take into consideration your specific industry, your location, your years of experience, everything you can to create the most accurate picture of what a reasonable salary would be.

From there, he recommends keeping track of your own KPI’s (key performance indicators) and major contributions to your position or organization.

Next, it’s important to speak the language of your audience.

Michael dives into strategies for communicating with your boss and more in the episode.

Check it out and let me know what you think!

Here are my two cents on salary negotiation: - Consider the Whole Package, not just salary. - Know Your Worth - Highlight Your Value - Practice Active Listening - Be Patient

Love the title of this. Look forward to reviewing your article.
