Nakabira Compassionate Initiative: An introduction from Star City Arts
Thursday, February 25, 2021 - Star City Arts is proud to introduce our new creative & cross-promotion partner, the Nakabira Compassionate Initiative in Namayumba, Uganda. Together we join to create Nakabira Arts, dedicated to honing & strengthening creative voices within educational programs at the Nakabira organization.
About Nakabira Compassionate Initiative
Nakabira Compassionate Initiative is a community-based charitable organization, led by Reagan Opio, working to meet the needs of young hearts, minds, bodies & voices through these unprecedented Times.
The Nakabira Story
Nakabira Compassionate Initiative was born in March of 2020 in the village of Namayumba, Uganda. Around that time, siblings Reagan, Jovia, and Vivian Opio encountered a crying local need in their neighborhood as area kids' educational needs went unmet.
Despite their own very modest means, the Opios swiftly took action to keep young Learners engaged & moving forward, despite the situation.
Adapting their many skills to this crisis and placing Faith at the forefront, Reagan, Jovia and Vivian graciously welcomed young Learners at their family's small compound.
At first, even the most basic supplies for the kids were nearly non-existent, but thanks to the Grace of God, the Opios began sourcing items like chairs, a blackboard, and personal Learning kits for these youngsters.
Very quickly, dozens of children began to appear to join these Learning sessions, making it necessary for the Opios to create a waiting list for aspiring Nakabira Learners.
Crisis management by the Opios has kept many kids from falling by the way in their educational pursuits & passions, but a permanent home for the Nakabira Compassionate Initiative is Goal One for the organization.
Nakabira Compassionate Initiative - Framework for programs
Compassion, honesty, integrity, hard work, forgiveness and humility are key values emphasized within the Nakabira Compassionate Initiative. Empowered by good values and proper encouragement, today's child can become tomorrow's visionary leader, a perspective that is always kept in mind at Nakabira.
Health, vocational training, academic work, and cultural and civic skills are among the keystones of Nakabira's programming. Water quality studies and health awareness/empowerment have a special place of relevance within these programs.
Nakabira Compassionate Initiative - Culture matters
At Nakabira, all work to foster mutual respect, practice "Love Thy Neighbor" values, and foster an appreciation for the richness that diversity brings to the human family.
In addition to classroom and service learning work, the Nakabira Compassionate Initiative Learning pathway includes time for physical exercise & socialization.
Netball games & fellowship events through Nakabira have created opportunities for local kids to bond while building wellness, self-esteem & teamwork.
The Nakabira Mission & Vision
The Nakabira mission is to educate, inspire & empower youth by helping kids build self-confidence & resilience, find talents, learn teamwork, & work compassionately toward a healthy, inclusive, water-secure world.
"Unity in Humanity for Prosperity" is the vision & organizational motto of the Nakabira team.
Nakabira Compassionate Initiative - Goals
