Naivism in Iittala

If you are in the vicinity of Iittala then visiting the yearly naivistic summer exhibition is a must. I have been going for decades.

Naivists are usually defined as visual artists lacking formal classical education howto create "proper" and "classcal" art. When a trained artists does naivism it is called primitivism. The Wiki article for me reads very negatively as my experience is something very different link.

Naivism is funny, playful and surprising. It is filled with interesting ideas and stories, narratives. The spectrum of approaches and themes is huge. It is things that you would not see in high arts. Naivism obeys no laws and recognizes no authoroties, physical laws or perspectives. However, we should not view naivism as something unsophisticated. These works of are can complex and filled with detail that can take plenty of time to absorb.

If you are in the vicinity of Iittala then go and have fun because it is.
