Nail Your Niche As An Image Consultant

You've probably heard that you need to specialize to succeed as an image consultant.

What should you do if you enjoy a variety of activities? You enjoy color, style, shopping, wardrobe, men, women, corporations, teens, and cosmetics parties. The list goes on.

If you're just starting, it's a good idea to experiment with a few things until you figure out what you enjoy doing and what works for you. You must first complete the necessary tasks before the road becomes apparent.

As Marie Forleo, an American Entrepreneur says “Clarity comes from engagement, not thought”.

If, on the other hand, you've been in business for a while and are still serving the entire cannoli to everyone, it's time to consider reducing the services and goods you offer.

Here are some questions to help you start thinking about getting more specific about who you work with and what you offer:

  1. What topics bring you to life and light you up? For what would you gladly dedicate hours to research? Which questions would keep you up at night trying to uncover the answers? What appears to be unworkable? Several of the stylists, love to work exclusively with men and that is a clear clue for them so like that you need to find your clear clue!
  2. Which individuals would you like to assist? Every day, you will be interacting, providing training, and fielding inquiries from these folks. Are they your people? You need to spend the majority of your time every day with your clients. You need to provide training, answer their questions, and learn together. Interact with them.
  3. Next is the financial security part. You need to know the potential of the Image Consulting Industry. Once you have decided what you want to excel in then you need to keep this in mind. This is often where image consultants get stuck as they are rarely trained in business. These skills need to be learned in the same way as you learned how to do a color or style analysis. Business skills do not come naturally to most people.
