The connection to language and the connection to ‘country or land’ is critical to the identity, health and wellbeing for many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Let's take a greater interest in people’s identity, culture, beliefs and connection to their traditional country. Ask - Where is your Mob from?
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are very diverse. It is important to remember that:
- Some people may have a connection to more than one country.
- Some people may not know their traditional country.
- Some people may not have a connection to country.
This conversation may bring up strong emotions for a person because of the history of Australian Government policies and racism. Consider issues relating to trauma, loss and grief.
