N-able Manila Sportsfest 2023

N-able Manila Sportsfest 2023

Manila N-ablites showed how we N-joy the journey as we N-rich lives and N-spire others during another fun filled event that took place last August 26 and September 3, the very first N-able Manila Sportsfest 2023. The inaugural N-able Manila Sportsfest marked a historic milestone for the company, as employees from various departments came together to showcase their athletic prowess, team spirit, and unwavering commitment to excellence. There were four competing teams chosen at random: Team Razzmatazz, Team Indigo, Team Turquoise, and Team Phlox. The sportsfest aimed to ensure that every member of the N-able family could participate and feel valued, regardless of their athletic abilities. A diverse array of sports and activities was carefully selected to cater to various interests and fitness levels.

The first day of sportsfest began with Mobile Legends as one of the popular e-games in Manila. The game’s objective is to destroy the enemy team's base while defending your own. On this day, we had the chess tournament as well for those who preferred mind over muscle and foosball. Foosball is also known as table football or table soccer. It is a popular table game that simulates a soccer or football match but played with small figures attached to rotating rods. The objective of foosball is to score goals by maneuvering the figures on the rods to kick the ball into the opponent's goal. Each player controls a set of rods with their figures with the goal of outscoring the opponent. The first day of sportsfest ended with Team Razzmatazz as champions for chess and foosball; while Team Indigo, dominated the championship for Mobile Legends.

The heart of the N-able Manila Sportsfest lay in the vibrant team spirit displayed by N-ablites. N-ablites, often bound by the constraints of office life, had the opportunity to collaborate in a different setting. The main event for sportsfest was held on a Sunday. The day started with a warm-up followed by opening remarks. In line with the Olympics tradition, the ceremony opened with the lighting of a torch and a procession of the four teams with their respective Team Sports Personalities. The cheering competition served as the energizer to commence the games for the day, followed by the pledge of sportsmanship. There were three physical games that required great stamina: basketball, volleyball, badminton, and giant volleyball. The highlight of the Sportsfest has always been the basketball championship; nonetheless, the people's enthusiasm with badminton and volleyball remained high as shouts, chants, and excitement filled the air. N-ablites cheered each other on, strategized, and demonstrated their commitment to unity and mutual support. Even though the players were tired after playing multiple sports, their desire to win each game became increasingly apparent. As a result, uncontrollable and painful spasms of the muscles overtook some players in the basketball game. Just like in any other game, champion teams reign in each game. Team Turquoise won the cheering competition, badminton, and volleyball, while Team Phlox won basketball and Team Razzmatazz won the Giant volleyball.

There were four other non-physical games: lato-lato, Pinoy Henyo, bridge building, and giant rock, paper, and scissors. Lato-lato came from a Buginese word, latto which translates to “making clacking sounds.” This is a toy that consists of two plastic balls suspended on a string. When swung, they slam against each other to create that distinct clacking sound. In this game, one can see the great control of hand motor movements for the balls to bump successfully as they are supposed to be. Players compete by swinging the balls, and whoever maintains the longest clacking rhythm wins. Team Phlox won this game as they showed their great hand motor control.

Next is a word guessing game that challenges the participants' deductive skills, vocabulary, and communication abilities, “Pinoy Henyo.” "Pinoy'' is a colloquial term for people with Filipino blood, while “Henyo” is the Tagalog word for genius. With this, it loosely translates to “Filipino Genius.” This game is a popular Filipino guessing game that started as a segment from a Filipino television variety show. The winning team is the one that guessed the greatest number of words in the least amount of time. Team Indigo showcased the power of their minds as they won this game.

Strengthening the collaboration when more minds were gathered together, each team then pooled their efforts?to build a bridge out of popsicle sticks and masking tape that could withstand a?certain amount?of weight. The winning bridge has a structure that withstood different weights. To further the team mind and strategy games, a giant rock, paper, and scissors game was held. Each team has three players and randomly chooses if they will present rock, paper, or scissors picture against their opponent. Team Razzmatazz won both games that displayed how great minds work together.

One team prevailed as most victorious, among others. The N-able Manila Sportsfest 2023 grand champion is Team Turquoise! Congratulations to all winners and participants of this year’s Sportsfest!

The first N-able Manila Sportsfest was not merely a corporate event; it was a celebration of the company's values, its commitment to inclusivity, and the talents and passions of Manila N-ablites. It brought together individuals from different walks of life, united by the shared goal of fostering a culture of unity, teamwork, and excellence. As the sun set on this historic event, it marked the dawn of a new era for N-able in Manila, one filled with the promise of even greater achievements and camaraderie.
