The myths that are dragging down your Instagram account

The myths that are dragging down your Instagram account

It might not seem like it but Instagram’s been around for over 10 years now. I know, it makes us feel old too… ??

And *WOW* have things changed!

Chronological posts are a distant memory. Reels dominate our feeds. And there is more content churned out than ever.

Particularly with how often that pesky algorithm changes, it’s hard to keep up. The strategies we could rely on as gospel in the early days just don’t cut it anymore.

Now, there’s a lot of babble when it comes to how to best reach your current and future audiences. Some of it useful, a lot of it not.

Step in Team Surge to BUST 4 seriously misleading Insta myths

MYTH 1:The more followers you have the better!

We get it, in the heyday of Instagram, soaring follower counts were a sign of a crowd-pleasing account. But times have changed. More and more profiles are littered with inactive or disengaged followers who won’t be engaging in the right way with your posts.

QUICK FIX:  If you’re looking to refine your audience - not to be cliche - buuut less really is more here. Remove any obvious bot or inappropriate profiles. That way you’ll be left with a saturated community within your niche that are *far* more likely to engage actively with your content.

MYTH 2: Multiple posts that make up one large visual look amazing!

This one is just a big NO from us. Yep, it might look great on your feed to begin with. But every time you post again the visual will fracture and it ends up looking like one confused jigsaw.

QUICK FIX: If you wanna promote an upcoming event or launch, why don’t you try using a graphic spread across three posts and pinning it to the top of your feed? It won’t get bumped down by a new post and will have a much bigger impact.

MYTH 3: Posting 24/7 is the only way to attract a following!

Algorithm updates have been screwing us all over at the moment. But the way to pierce through the noise ISN’T to over-post. At one point or another, you’ll be sacrificing originality, and you won’t be getting the results you want.

QUICK FIX: It’s true, the strategy for posting on Insta atm isn’t super straightforward. What we do recommend is plunging into your analytics. Think about the lifestyle of your following, when they’re most likely to be active, and guide your posting schedule around that.

MYTH 4: ‘Saves’ are the most important metric

It’s easy to think that if people are saving your posts they’ll come back to you time and time again. But when you think about it it’s a pretty closed line of communication, and let’s be honest…how often do you ever revisit a post in your sales folder?!

QUICK FIX: Next time you write a C.T.A (Call To Action), encourage your audiences to engage with you via DM. That way you’ll have hot leads of customers who are GENUINELY interested in your product.

?Going into the New Year, let’s leave some of these vintage Instagram myths behind. For more handy marketing tips and tricks, why not give our LinkedIn and Instagram a follow? ?
