Yesterday when I was pensively reclining on my bean bag, I got an attractive message. It was a spinning wheel of fortune that was seemingly dishing out amazing goodies - Guess what All for free! There it was, exactly what you want at any juncture - something for free. With the immediate release of Dopamine I rotated the wheel and did I get what they promised I would get - Negative! However what it help with is the temporary creation of a feeling good. There are many a times that this feeling good happens.
Look at the world today, there are all reasons to be circumspect. When I step out, I cannot see smiles on the faces. I can only see the masks and masked expressions. However the eyes do tell the story which really shows the worried and anxious expression. I have been watching many of the motivational talks of various global leaders. I have been attempting to find where this will all be headed to without any clear answers.
In the world of employment, there are more changes and shake-ups happening and a clear movement towards more defined employment and expectations getting clearer. The world of gig economy is starting to really take a clearer shape. On the other side, there is also a world that talks about permanent employment. A permanent employment is one that is defined as not having any clear end date. In the days of uncertainty, while companies seem to have a clear agenda to only retain the workforce that is only absolutely required, it is pertinent to note that no one can consider a birth right to staying employed. It is an everyday war that will ensure the survival of the fittest. The one who is ready to fight and prove credentials.
For me, staying relevant is all that determines your guarantee for staying employed that I feel are summarized by the below pointers:
- See changes as opportunities
- Use your assets and strengths
- Take it a day at a time
- Continuously innovate
Remember, I still believe that these battles will rage on and there will be a clamor for Permanent Employment, however there is nothing permanent in the world. Change is the only constant, so let us stay relevant, hungry and innovate as the world continues to see more shifts in the way that employment is construed.
