The Myth of Prosperity
The more I live in London, one of the cities where economic prosperity is strong and vivid the more I realise this was never fit to how humans have evolved the past thousands of years. We have animal instincts. This was necessary for our survival and we are keep forgetting that this includes everyone else as well as ourselves. We don't realise that we are really far from being truly mature, from having a society where we can be happy and civilised at the same time. There are some many things that gives us pleasure which come from our urges for competition and war. We love war, we love competing with others even if this is not necessary, even if we found ourselves in a lose-lose situation. I feel such a strong disappointment for all of these high iq scientists who built the foundations for technologies to exist as they are today but didn't consider how these technologies are going to be used. If you are only partially related with science and technology I am sure you have thought some many ways of how technology could be used to help our lives for the better but also how it is being exploited by people who enjoy war and competition more than anything else. Don't tell that you have not found young engineers who have all this passion to create but still cannot understand that the society is far from ready to enjoy and much more eager to fight and go to war. I was one of them but I have given up this idea because it will not magically work. Irresponsibility, this is the only way to describe people with great skills who deal how to fix technical or mathematical or similar problems and don't care how to fix themselves and society in general. There are so many animal urges in us that I am truly and really scared how the next generation of technology tools could be used by malevolent people who will have access to them I am not suggesting any action plan here at all. This is first to realise that the moment you, the otherwise clever and skilful person, invest your time on institutions that care to maximise power then you are dooming yourself and potentially many others. I feel I am getting nowhere with this analysis but as it is already mentioned the first thing is to acknowledge the problem. You cannot think that being part of the capital, of being part of the so-called developed world rather than a developing country you are not being affected, you are not glorifying money and thus being more controllable. You need to disassociate yourself from this madness and go back to the roots of the problem and fix things while still enjoying life. The goal of being happy at all times and not just playing happy can be achieved but the necessary changes within you should occur, and this involves a great deal of work with yourself as a first step. There is no real prosperity if you have people still being cruel to others but instead of using knifes they use high-tech tools. Where are the real tools? Where are the tools that when one acts in a cruel way or receive cruel behaviour in his childhood he gets immediate help that could scale instead of waiting for him or her to evolve into a criminal in the adult life? etc.
