The Myth of Motion Management

The Myth of Motion Management

Everyday in thousands of clinics across the country incredible treatment plans are generated from very talented Dosimetrists, then checked and doublechecked by Physicists and Physicians, but the reality is that these sometimes elaborate plans are created on a static image and I would like to suggest that regardless of how well you calibrate your equipment, or stringently immobilize the patient, everyone moves and that motion is not only external, but internal.

Sure, we make vaclok bags, place patient in masks, use compression devices and align with laser to skin markings, and yes, we take images prior to treatment to ensure we have done our best, but the second a therapist walks out of a room, the gantry begins to move, or the couch gets kicked all bets are off.

But what if I told you there was a system out there that could adjust and compensate for the motion of a patient to the tenth of a millimeter translationally or a tenth of a degree rotationally no matter if the patient, or the lesion, or the critical structure moved anteriorly, posteriorly, left, right, inferiorly, superiorly, roll, pitch or yaw throughout the entire course of a treatment to ensure that exactly what you plan was what was being treated.

This is what a CyberKnife? does.

There are many companies out there these days that show you motion, there is only one that really does something about it.

Please feel free to message me to find out more about how we effectively handle motion throughout the treatment process.

Absolutely, it's why I chose the Cyberknife to treat my recently diagnosed prostate cancer. 5 afternoon naps, no side effects, and I know from personally treating 1400 cases that I know I'm not going to have any future problems from the cancer or with my quality of life.
