There are many aspects of the auto insurance industry that are extremely difficult to navigate for the average consumer. One of the biggest misconceptions that I find the concept of "full coverage." In the course of just about every conversation that I have about insurance be it with my customers or with friends the question comes up "how much can you get me for full coverage?"
The first thing I say is, "there is no such thing as full coverage." These people look at me like I am crazy. Here they are they have been paying who knows how much for insurance and I just told them there is no such thing as full coverage!
So what is this full coverage that you hear about?
When you purchase Collision and Comprehensive coverage on your insurance policy that is when people will tell you that you have "full coverage." The reason is because your policy now not only covers the other person in the accident, it now covers your vehicle as well.
The reason you will never here me tell a customer that they have full coverage is simply because there are times when insurance companies do deny claims.
In summary: If you are told you have full coverage make sure to ask your agent exactly what your policy covers.
