The Myth Behind Overnight Success

Ever wonder why some businesses seem to explode overnight, while others toil away in obscurity?
It’s like they hit a magical switch, and suddenly, they’re everywhere. But here's the truth most don’t see: That "overnight success" you’re admiring? It’s actually years in the making, hidden behind the curtain of "Gradually, Then Suddenly."
Ernest Hemingway summed it up perfectly in his novel The Sun Also Rises. When a character is asked how he went bankrupt, he replies, "Two ways. Gradually, then Suddenly." The same is true in business, but in reverse—success comes gradually, then suddenly.
Take my own business, Cloudscape, as an example. For five years, we were in what felt like a never-ending grind—sleepless nights, constant worries, and more setbacks than I can count. Each day, we made tiny, often imperceptible improvements. But beneath the surface, something powerful was happening.
We were laying the foundation—honing skills, building relationships, and learning the hard lessons that would eventually pay off.
Then, almost without warning, clients started pouring in, our team hit its stride, and our reputation soared. From the outside, it looked like we'd suddenly made it. We closed projects with some of the biggest names in the region, including Etihad Airways and the Louvre Museum in Abu Dhabi.
