A Mysterious New Year's Eve: A Night in Shanghai
December 31, 2010. Adnan had traveled to Shanghai to celebrate his first New Year's Eve in the vibrant city. The dazzling lights, the bustling streets, and the illuminated skyline along the Pudong River felt like a magical realm. Little did he know, this night would turn into the most mysterious and thrilling experience of his life.
While enjoying the festivities with friends, Adnan suddenly realized he had lost them in the massive crowd. He tried calling them, but his phone had no signal. His limited knowledge of Mandarin and the language barrier made it impossible to seek help from those around him.
As he sat by the river, wondering what to do, he noticed a strange ship appearing from the darkness. Its lights flickered faintly as if calling out to him. From the ship, a tall man in a black coat disembarked and walked toward Adnan.
The man said, "You’re lost, aren’t you?"
Startled, Adnan asked, "Who are you?"
The man smiled mysteriously and replied, "You wouldn’t recognize me. But if you wish to uncover the secrets of the New Year, step aboard."
For a moment, Adnan hesitated, but his curiosity overcame his fear. He boarded the ship, which began moving silently into the depths of the river. The city lights dimmed, and darkness enveloped them.
The man led Adnan to a small cabin where an ancient Chinese map lay on a wooden table. He said, "This map will guide you to your answers, but the journey won’t be easy."
Adnan studied the map, which pointed to an old part of Shanghai he had never heard of. The man handed him a compass and said, "This compass will show you the way, but if fear overtakes you, you’ll lose your path."
The ship docked at a shadowy pier, and Adnan stepped ashore. Holding the compass, he followed its directions. The streets grew narrower and darker. At times, he felt like someone was following him, but every time he turned around, there was no one.
Finally, the map led him to an abandoned theater. He pushed open the creaking doors and entered. Dust filled the air, and the place was eerily silent. Suddenly, a spotlight illuminated the stage.
There stood a man who looked exactly like Adnan, wearing an unsettling smile.
The man said, "You were looking for me, weren’t you?"

Terrified, Adnan asked, "Who are you?"
The figure didn’t reply, his smile growing more menacing. Overcome with fear, Adnan ran out of the theater and kept running until he reached the pier—but the mysterious ship was gone.
The next morning, Adnan reunited with his friends, who were relieved but confused. They claimed he hadn’t been with them all night.
To this day, Adnan wonders about that night. The compass, the map, the eerie figure on the stage—was it real, or was it all just a vivid nightmare?
