Mysteries of Mount Kailash: Abode of Shiva

Mount Kailash is one of the peaks found in the Kailash ranges which is spread across India and Tibet. Mount Kailash is believed to be the holy abode of Lord Shiva, he is said to be in an eternal meditation along with his consort Parvati and his much-loved vehicle Nandi. The place is also considered to be the abode of Buddha by the Buddhists and the followers of Jainism believe that this is the place from where Rishabh, the propagator of the religion, attained enlightenment. There are several mysterious activities which have been noticed at this peak and an interesting one amongst them is that nobody has been able to reach the summit till this day.

As per ancient text, it is said that no mortal shall be allowed to walk atop Mount Kailash, where among the clouds is the home of the gods. He who dares to start to the top of the mount to see the faces of the gods will be put to death. Scroll down further to know more about the mysterious abode of Shiva.

1. One Can Witness Time Travel: Those who visited the holy mountain, have claimed that they have noticed a rapid growth, especially of the nails and hair. The growth of the nails and hair that takes about 2 weeks in normal conditions, takes place, here, in a span of just 12 hours; the mountain air contributes to the rapid aging process.

2. Regular Change In Position: Nobody, other than an 11th century Tibetan Buddhist monk called Milarepa has been successful in scaling up the peak as it changes its destination and also tends to block the tracks which mislead the climbers. Trekkers would out of the blue move in the opposite direction or would witness bad weather conditions which forces them to descend, many of who have never returned. All the treks to the summits have been unsuccessful till date.

A large number of studies conducted by the scientists of Russia and America believe that the holy peak is the center of the world and is known as the Axis Mundi. It is also said to be connected to several other monuments across the globe, such as the Stonehenge, which is exactly 6666 km away from here, the North Pole is also 6666 km from here and the South Pole is 13332 km away from the peak. Mount Kailash, is considered as the cosmic axis or the world tree even in the Vedas and finds the mention of the same in the Ramayana as well.

4. Mythical Link Between Heaven And Earth: The four faces of Mount Kailash face the four directions of the compass. According to the Vedas, the mountain is a link between heaven and earth. The followers of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism believe that the peak is the gateway to heaven. The Pandavas along with Draupadi are believed to have attained moksha whilst trekking up the peak, with one of them falling off before reaching the summit.

When the sun is setting, the mountain is said to cast a shadow, which has a striking resemblance to the religious symbol of Swastika, which is considered as an auspicious sign amongst the Hindus. Om Parvat is yet another unsolved mystery which is fascinating, as the snow falls on the peak and takes the shape of OM. Russian scientists believe that Mount Kailash is not a mountain as it is way too perfect and symmetrical to be considered as a natural occurrence. The entire peak has a striking resemblance of a cathedral and the sides are extremely perpendicular which gives it the appearance of a pyramid.

One would come across two lakes at the foot of the peak which is Manasarovar and Raskhas Tal. Manasarovar has a round shape which resembles the sun and Raskhas Tal takes the shape of the crescent moon. The two lakes represent the good and negative energies respectively. Another interesting factor is that Manasarovar is a freshwater lake and Raskhas Tal is a saltwater one.

The lights are real. I have been witness to the same and it's no exaggeration. But before that, The triangle of Mt Kailash (MK) , Lake Manasarovar ( MS) and Lake Raskhas Tal (RT) is the most mysterious regions of the world. It's truly an area where gods manifest and I don't think the current level of human science understanding can decipher some of the phenomenon one sees there. Maybe with Lord Shivas (LS) blessings, the human consciousness will rise to decipher the same in near future. But for now you can marvel at it and be in awe..

Although MK is LS own locus mundi. It's where the great Lord resides in the Hindu, Buddhist,Jain and Tibetan Bon consciousness and the mountain itself is a reservoir of unexplained energies.. Some of which may be coming from universe and beyond. Who knows. MK itself is a spiritual phenomenon of a lifetime. For adherents of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Bon.. It's a visit of a lifetime to a place where one tries to understand what's the mission of ones existence, the purpose. It's said that if you go there the Lord makes you feel his existence in his own way. And maybe he willed that you should visit him.

For people who are lucky they go close enough to do Charansparsh (CSP )-in the North face of MK at Derapuk/ Dira phuk) -many either feel vacuum, silence, immense peace, tranquility, happiness or tears. The mind goes into a different level of consciousness- of being one and to understand why you are there. It's said that the thoughts at this time may convey the Lords thoughts to you . While people who have gone closer and inner kora report that time moves fast, hair grows fast, nails grow fast, I was not privy to it's firsthand. But folks who experienced CSP felt immense happiness ( we could not because of weather issues)

MS and RT while adjoining lakes ,are chalk and cheese in their inherent nature. It's lik the expression of yin and yang in the form of nature. While RT is placid blue and has a better view of MK at a distance, it's a lake which supports no life. No fish, no insects, no birds, no plants trees.. Nothing. Some.maintain it's water is salty. In Hindu traditions, one is not even supposed to bathe. And in Buddhist traditions, nobody even prays or circumbulate. There are no monasteries/seminaries in the RT circumference. On the narrow isthmus that divides RT and MS where on one side you can see RT on your left and MS on your right it's a study of contrasts.

MS water is pure white. There is nature abound. Fish, insects, plants, seagulls. People circumambulate ( parikrama) and there are reportedly 88 monasteries. You can also see MK at a distance. One thing which is a highlight of MS is the bright multicolored lights that one sees during the Brahmamuhurt ( supposedly 1.5 hrs before dawn) of your local area.. In a conventional sense it can be anytime between 3–5 am in morning (don't go on this by the local Chinese time which is 2.5 hrs ahead fixed to Beijing). Was blessed to wake up, see it two nights in the Brahmamuhurt time .. We saw myriad colors of lights coming out from the dark lake area and in a phenomenon which indicate that these are celestial bodies( like some human beings flying in a Tony Stark Iron Man suit) which seem like gallivanting up and down for as low as 5 seconds to as high as 60–70 seconds before instantly disappearing.

That they appear in all directions over lake body is indeed incredulous as we saw deep red, green, warm sun, orange kind of lights. On the 1st night I would have seen 8 lights and on 2nd night I saw 5–7 lights. The clouds itself take multitude of colours during day and night. We saw light within clouds and then these lights would come in waves .. Sometimes high and sometimes shimmering on the water surface before disappearing. One of our colleagues tried to click it ( and erroneously with flashlight) and it instantly disappeared.

To say it's LS own 7D show is an understatement. But typically a calm lake suddenly starts building giant waves at some pt, gets windy and also this follows with birds( Possibly seagulls) who start chirping out loudly. When all of this happens, suddenly lights would appear.. And by the 2nd night, we were in half expectant mode when when all this would happen and we would be alert that lights would appear anytime now. And it would. In waves. Again and again. None of the above is hallucination or fiction. For me personally its a memory of a lifetime.. It's real. and one may feel LS own aura on display. We feel truly blessed and one may feel lucky that the great Lord thought of us to show his creation and maybe give darshan in his own way.. Om Namah Shivay
