MYPI August 2022 Recap

The team at Muslim Youth for Positive Impact has been very busy this past month.? Here are our August Highlights of events and meeting the community needs during this very fun time of the year!??

Early August, the amazing team behind our MYPI’s Adopt a Family hosted their annual "Back to School Community Social DEFY''. ?This event was hosted to welcome the? new refugee families who resettled in the Denver Metro Area.? The new families? gathered together, socialized and were able to get free admission into DEFY.? DEFY is an indoor trampoline with obstacle courses and foam pits. Newly resettled refugee families in the Denver Metro Area had priority to this exclusive event. The event was very successful,? We had more than 300 people show up and take advantage of the resources and donations offered to the refugee families, and muslim youth in need.?

Mid August the team hosted a Field Day for the Muslim Youth across the Denver Metro area.? Youth from the surrounding area were invited to enjoy fun games, activities, and socially connect with peers within their cultures and religious beliefs.? This outdoor event held at the Maime D Eisenhower Park in Denver? and hosted by MYPI's Mental Wellness Program aimed at supporting the youth with their muslim identity and provided them opportunities to meet and enjoy connecting with youth they identified with.? This was a unique event where the youth were not accompanied by their parents and had opportunities to practice their social and ethical skills away from their parents' lenses.? Parents were able to join at the end of the event to enjoy their youth,? observe them socialize, and make friendships.? Some of the parents also? joined in support of serving food as well.? In addition our ?youth COVID education ambassadors were on site helping and reminding the youth to remain safe and have access to COVID tests and masks. More than 75 youth attended the event and enjoyed the hot barbecued meals prepared and served by amazing community leaders and volunteers.? A special thanks to to brother Aijaz Ansari and sister Ayesha Ansari for their lead during the event.??

Camping trip video

MYPI’s Annual Camping Event was a blast. ? This year’s camping trip was held at the Golden Canyon State Park which is conveniently located for the majority of the participants and took less travel time.? During the event the Youth helped setting up camp, transport camp supplies and materials and prepare meals.? Even though it rained most days, the youth enjoyed playing games, learning and practicing nature survival skills.? They had many opportunities for collaborating, hiking and taking part in team work to complete tasks and keep everyone dry and safe. The event hosted? between 75-100 people.? Some families stayed for the entire weekend while others participated for one night.? The youth and their families had ample opportunities to strengthen their bond and relationships with family members which is an essential element of their mental wellbeing. ? The younger kids had created beautiful memories as they built forts, painted and enjoyed the outdoors surrounded by loved ones and other kids of their age group.??

Our Mentorship program is growing!! ? Our Mentorship program manager sister Sara Rusta led the effort and organized the Mentorship Round Launch for 2022/23. ? The event was a success (100 participants) .? Our number of matched mentors to mentees has gone up significantly! ? This? required event for all mentors and mentees participating, served as an introduction of the members to one another.? Following a couple of years of being hosted remotely, the members of the mentorship program met each other face to face and participated in various relationship building activities.? This event sets the ground for a successful match and a year of growth for each party.? Held at a convenient location for the youth and their mentors, the participants? along with various community leaders and professionals were in attendance. ?

This meeting is essentially followed by a series of check ins and coaching sessions for the program participants to ensure and support the success of the program.?
