My Year 2023

We’re still in the first month of this New Year, and I’d like to take you with me and my goals for 2023. After I shared my 2022 in my previous blog post and gave you a little outlook of what you can expect this year, I’m now going more into detail…
Toward the end of 2022, we decided to sell our house here in Sweden to mark the new beginning and be prepared for what might come our way toward Cambridge. Some of you may wonder where we are living now and how this relates to letting our oldest girls finish their school in peace without any distractions. The answer is easy: We could sell the house but will only move out this summer – so no stress???
The coming months are filled with “business as usual” I'd say: I work my usual agreements with my leaders 1:1, facilitate team developing workshops, and serve my existing clients, but I won’t take on any new ones at this stage.
Parallel, my two oldest girls are applying for various universities, and we will go and visit some of them in person (Vienna was calling, which was one of the highlights I was very much looking forward to last weekend), some via “online tour” (Rotterdam which I REALLY liked I must admit). And then, of course, they are pretty busy with their IB, where the final exams take place in April & May this Year.
The application for our youngest one to a school in the UK is also underway, and I hope we will get the confirmation soon so that another “insecurity” can be crossed off the list…
Also, in parallel (maybe I should have named the year “parallel” instead of “wave”!?), we are looking for a house to live in in the Cambridge area. Martin is busy visiting some places, and the actual move will start once this is done. I plan to move the “core family” in July, one daughter in August and the other in September (due to their different start dates). This is at least the plan; let’s see if reality can confirm this excellent plan…
Professional-wise, I’ll take a gap over these three months to focus on the move, the integration, the adjustment, and the first getting to know our new host country while helping our daughters do the same in their new host countries. This will be when I literally “wave”?????a lot…?
Buying a new car, getting used to driving on the “wrong side of the road” – apologies to all my friends who do this all the time, I know it’s not wrong, it’s just unusual for me????– are some further goals on our list...
Speaking of goals: It's the sixth year that I have followed Gretchen Rubin’s “23 for 2023” (I once started with "18 for 2018") as I DO like setting goals, giving my life direction, and following through. And what I like most about this concept is the variety of objectives. They could be professional (revenues, clients, speaking engagements) or personal (managing the various moves, finding a house and school, networking), health-related (playing badminton, going 7.500 steps a day), or things “you always wanted to do but never had the time or…to” (buying an adapter, a “wave” journal, special candelabrum).?
And another goal I secretly longed for many years without really letting the thought out of it is writing! And in 2023, I’ll make this a priority. I will send out a blog post every week, dedicate a topic to each month and enjoy letting my thoughts flow, providing some helpful tips and insights for my clients. And in addition, allowing you all to participate in my wavy life of 2023 and onward…
I will have a monthly theme for these articles, e.g. Goal Setting was the January theme, Leadership will be the February theme, followed by some others, such as Time Management, Manager as Coach, Confidence, Relationship, Networking, and Feedback, to name some of them. If you have special wishes/interests I could cover, or you are interested in learning more about them, please feel free to let me know via email or comment.?
To get you not only to read the articles but also to get into doing, additional tools and exercises will follow these weekly blog posts in the upcoming week to accompany the insights and the learning and get you into practice.?
And another of my goals this year is to be more social. As an introvert (I can see how my family immediately and heavily would contradict this, but this is who I truly am – although I was much more of an Introvert when I was younger, I have to admit), I wouldn’t say I like big groups. Still, I LOVE meaningful interactions one-on-one or in small groups. I always leave inspired and energised when I meet with like-minded people, and I always learn so much from them, who they are, what they love, and what else could be done in the world… I could experience this already during my trip to Vienna, where I met with fascinating and inspiring ladies, and I will continue throughout the Year in various places - Cambridge is next on my list ;)

2023?is the Year of the rabbit, representing?longevity, peace,?and?prosperity in Chinese culture.?
?2023 is predicted to be the Year of hope. And this?particular?Rabbit year, I read somewhere, will bring big excitement, changes, and surprises; we should prepare for both good and bad outcomes—and pay attention to our feelings.
With all this said, towards the end of 2023, I wish and hope for “back to normal” where I can focus (again) more on my business and my clients and enjoy the new direction my business is going: away from 1:1 coaching towards working with teams and groups, helping them thrive, build high performing teams and support couples to have healthy long-term relationships.??
How is it for you? Do you like goal setting? Do you have a theme word for 2023? What are you hoping for? What are your plans for this Year? I’d love to learn about your thoughts on goal setting and planning. Does it feel energising to you or draining instead??
Stay tuned to next month’s topic of Leadership Skills 2023, which you can read in next week’s blog post…
