My Year (2017) in Numbers

My Year (2017) in Numbers

It's been a year where I've started to think about things in different ways: including numbers.

Much like the Book of Number's, I've started to see different stories available for interpretation from the same set of numbers... is it a story about two generations, or three locations, or two journey's?

The answer is of course - yes! or that just may be 42, (depending whose authorship you prefer) after all, what would Zaphod say?

NUMBERS COUNT

Whilst all years start on 1 January, my year of numbers started a little later than that, but in the end, its always the numbers that count:

0 - the likely return on my investment in Renaissance Breweries - thanks Snowflake;

1 - you only get one life: do with it what you can. Also (and importantly), the number of wives I have had, a perfect singularity - amazing, and a great way to spend that life;

2 - the number of wonderful children I have - children are a joy in an often joyless world;

3 - a very useful number for talking religious or philosophical matters: faith, hope and charity; the triune God; Id, Ego and Super Ego, to name just a few. But charity also ring's a bell, see below.....;

4 - the number of the cardinal virtues: prudence; courage, temperance and justice. Also the number of years I have served on the Scout Youth Foundation with responsibility for investment performance;

6 - the number of years I've worked at NZTE, and also the number of years I have formally raised funds for Movember, also the number of countries visited this year;

6.1 - the DEI multiple (x) of the NZTE IGF as at May 2017 (yes that's an annualised 16.39%!);

7 - the days of the week, the planes of existence, the sum of the sides of the square and the triangle;

8 - the annual average percentage return on Armillary's RPV fund;

12 - the number of years I have been a shareholder and director of Armillary;

13 - the number of directors, with whom I serve, without whose counsel and support exactly zero of my numbers would have been possible;

14 - the number of issuers that USX has;

15 - the number of years I served in the Australian and NZ Army's, and the number of years I had been retired before I was dined out of 16 Fd Regt in September (a great night, and an honour, thank you);

25.8 - the after tax and fees return as a percentage, for APC Nominees No. 2 Ltd, this year as at 3 January 2018, just remember past performance is not an indicator of future performance!!;

30 - the wonderful anniversary I had with the worlds best wife in January 2018;

30.7 - the before fees and tax return as a percentage, for APC No 2 Ltd, this year as at 3 January 2018, see 25.8 above for the warning;

45 - the percentage growth in consolidated SOBS revenue growth after its acquisition of Hush;

52 - my chronological age, but I am wise beyond my years;

99 - the number of years exactly from the day that Pvt Richard Grandy died at Le Quesnoy, to the day I put a poppy on his grave;

99.8 - the percentage growth in annual registrations of FUSO over calender 2017;

100 - the number of guns that fired at the Centenary of the closing of the battle of Passchendaele at Fort du Seclin, in November;

113 - the number of houses RPV is building for Tamaki Redevelopment corporation;

150 - the birthday celebration for 22 (D) Battery in 2017;

175 - the birthday celebration for NZ Pacific in 2017;

312 - the total number of staff I am responsible for as a director, as at 3 January 2018;

700 - the 700th meeting of Westminster I chaired in 2017;

1,017 - the number of FUSO's registered in our first full calender year of operation;

2,000 - the amount of dollars raised by the St John's Dinner for Wellington Free Ambulance in June 2017;

2,390 - the dollars you gave to my Movember effort this year - a sincere thank you;

15,707 - the total dollars you helped me raise for Movember in 6 years - thanks a lot!;

1,000,000 - the assets under management barrier we broke for Scout Youth Foundation in September;

42,700,000 - the approximate average annual turnover in NZ$ of the principal trading Companies on whose Board's I serve;

1,000,000,000 - the amount of DEI in NZ$ created by the IGF as at May 2017, and

2,681,000,000 - the market capitalisation of the USX market as at 13 December 2017, USX is the market that Armillary manages.

CONCLUSION'S

It's a big bunch of numbers, but what does it all mean?

Well I could tell you, but that would be cheating.

Perhaps it means it was a busy year: perhaps, it was a successful year; perhaps, it was something else alltogether, whatever it means, I want you to have a great summer and a well deserved break.

After all, I want one too, or is that, "I want 1:2"?

Regardless,

Happy New Year, Leon
