My WiNx Special Event Journey

My WiNx Special Event Journey

It has been less than a year since the WiN YG committee initiated the WiNx Special Event. After an unsuccessful attempt at collaboration with TEDx in creating a talk event with Women in Nuclear, the team decided to build something of their own around that concept, adding more of our vision and ambition. This project, raised on the topic 'Women and Energy Transition' was promising. WiN Global and GWNET also joined, providing prestigious sponsorship and amazing speakers. All these made the WiNx Special Event a 'Must Attend Event' with a technical tour at ITER, a round table conference with nuclear experts, and a talk session with inspiring leaders from the nuclear world.

When I had the opportunity to be one of the speakers, I was hesitant to decide. I would have to share publicly some of my personal story which presented a real challenge for me due to my tendency to protect my privacy. Until I remembered my Atomic Ambassador training, which taught me how important it is to speak up when given an opportunity to represent my community. With the help of my wonderful WiNx Talk reviewers, I overcame my difficulties, and through the process of preparing for my talk, I learned a lot about myself and about communication.

With the event occurring on D-Day, it was with great enchantment to see our honorable hosts and guests arrive in the conference room. It was unreal seeing the cream of the nuclear industry, ready to receive, share, network, and bringing forward solutions to the energy crisis. After the round table and watching other brilliant speakers that talked before me it was intimidating to present myself. Fortunately, the coffee break provided a touching network experience that manifested their humility, humanity and kindness. That encouraged my confidence and I walked on stage and proudly presented the African's perspective of the energy crisis.

I succeeded in capturing their attention and they received my call to action for an Africa that embraces its potential for its own energy development. During the lunch, I received incredible feedback and exchanged contacts with many who were interested in building new bridges to NetZero goals while promoting more inclusion and diversity in leadership roles. For our first in-person event, and my first speaker experience, we are very happy and proud of this WiNx Special Event. We are determined to do more and better. Stay tuned to our news and see you at the next ride.

Enjoy my WiNx album photo and listen to my talk !
