About my why

About my why

I’m Flora, ever since I was a kid, I dreamed about having a job. Not every job tho, I dreamed about being chief. Weird ambition. ??

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not attracted to power nor money. I was a shy kid, at times bullied. Pretty secret and often lost in my head. My inner life was pretty intense. Makes sense now because it turns out that I’m hypersensitive. I didn’t know that and it took me 28 years and a bit of therapy to get it. Better later than never!

Anywho, as long as I can remember, people moved me. I always wanted to help. Family, friends. Also, myself…

I grew up and wanted to become a doctor. Because it was the “classic” way of helping out people. I didn’t know any other way to do so. Later on, I failed and decided to take another path. I found some other way of doing so: UX design. So I decided to help by designing better experiences for people. Then I moved on to strategy. It was fine for a while. But in the words of Simon Sinek, at some point I felt a split between my why and what I was doing. My why was starting to get fuzzier and I was getting lost in the hows and whats. Long story short, I was burning out. ??

Then, I remembered my weird kid ambition: “to be a chief”. Somehow I felt like this was definitely part of my why. Turns out I never wanted to be a chief, but I always wanted to be a leader. People move me. Because everybody’s got a story, dreams, goals and aspirations. I believe that everybody should feel supported in their growth to achieve what truly matters to their heart. Reconnecting with myself took a while, it started when I co-founded KeyLearn with Richard. ??

I started to learn, a lot. And with of theses learnings, I tried to achieve my goals. During the past year, I’ve completed 2 triathlons, done a public speaking, played piano, read 25+ books, enjoyed my friends & family, took vacations and felt inspired by my work everyday. Life’s good, and I know I’m pretty lucky. But I also have the opportunity to get better, and I work for it.

But most important of all: I found my why. ??

What I want to do when I grow up is to inspire people to grow and reach their dreams. Because I believe that if we all become better we can make this world a better place. The best part is, Richard believes it too. And that’s why KeyLearn exists. In French I’d say: c’est la première pierre de l’édifice. ??

I’ve always seen myself as a realistic person but my family says that I’m idealistic. Turns out, they’re right! Maybe, I’m even a bit na?ve.

But I’d rather pursue my dream and put the efforts in, rather than lose myself again!

Why did we create KeyLearn? Because we want to help people leverage what they learn to achieve what matters to them.

Why am I writing? Because I believe that sharing what I learn can inspire you to grow.

I hope I’m right. I dream big.

I hope you do too! ?
