My Water Did not Boil

Early in my marketing days, such as the previous century, a wise person shared with me that you cannot turn on and turn off marketing activities and get good results. This still rings true today for the most part.

There are a few marketing activities that get fast results. Have a PR Crisis like Boeing or be like Wendy's and announce your food pricing is going to surge during peak hours. Why does this peak interests? Because it usually has a negative aspect to it. The window section falling off the plane and being charged more for food at lunch time because you are hungry at the peak time of noon. This type of marketing is picked up in the news and has a large amount of coverage and comments on social too.

However, as many marketers say, there is no such thing as bad PR. Any one hungry for Wendy's? It has been on my mind the last 2 days. Frosty is sounding pretty good about now.

So if no crisis, no bad customer service decisions, how do you win with marketing? Be consistent and know who your target market is. In my decades of marketing and advertising I have seen many business start a campaign and then stop in 30 days, 90 days or even 6 months. The water was about to boil but they removed their business from the heat.

Now let me lump this in with digital marketing and traditional marketing like radio, TV etc. Even with "new digital" marketing. Business owners give up to soon. I say it is better not to even start then to start and stop, start and stop, start and stop. Usually they will "try Google Ads" then because the phone did not ring off the hook, the webforms completions did not float in one right after another the owner gives up.

Marketing is a long term investment. There are so many marketing tools for all types of budgets, but you have to stick with it. Even more so with your social marketing. Not all of your connections/followers are in the market for your product or service at the same time, but you want to be there and look open when they are ready. Ever look up a roofing company online to see they have not posted in 2 years on Facebook and be like huh are they still open?

Find a couple of marketing tools that you can use on a consistent basis and commit to building your authority online. People buy from people they know, like and trust. Start building that trust with your marketing!
