On my walk this morning. Mental Health

On my walk this morning. Mental Health

I tend to pick up things through observation and one of the things that I have picked up on in recent months is peoples mental health.

This morning on my exercise (walk) I picked up on individuals sitting on benches alone. young and old, black, and white, head down - struggling. You can tell in an individual’s eyes - people are slowly falling apart.

I say this not as an expert but through my own observation of people and I see it every day with my family members, my friends, those around me in my community, neighbours.

EVERYONE is impacted however small, we just deal with things differently and we try hard to put up a front.I include myself in this.

I have also witnessed in real time what it does to older people, I have discovered one thing. You can be strong from the outside, but it does not necessarily mean you are, and it becomes more and more difficult to manage as you get older because you have other stuff going on in the background. It is heart breaking to watch.

ITS GOOD TO TALK

I call my mother every day and when I do, she just wants to chat. Mostly about nothing specific. Our capacity and emotional needs are not being met, there are examples I am sure we can all give.

EMPLOYERS have a responsibility and obligation that during this pandemic to show empathy, flexibility, support, and direction - we are all going through this and chances are so are YOU.

Leaders need to be visible and have their fingers on the pulse of what is going on in the real world, because only then will it allow them to make the right decisions for the company and employee. If you are going through something yourself the chances are so are your employees.

Its such a big area of concern and as employers we have moral responsibility. We have never been through something like this and we are going to suffer - support is needed from government to invest more into mental health.

Very well said. It's time to put the stigma of mental health aside and dive in....
