KNOWING IT
Twitter, a brilliant source of raw news was launched in 2006 and this is the ripe and right time to assess its legacy as a powerful and influential social media platform. Today, it is an integral part of journalism and has facilitated a revolution in spreading information. It is the voice of the voiceless globally and has a dominating presence among thinkers, politicians, business leaders, sportsmen, marginalized persons, and communities. This width of followers was unheard of in the past.
On the flip side, there are toxic discourses, a misinformation campaign, trolling, and online abuse also. It has a lot to do with culture wars and effective representations and is associated with prejudice and privilege existing in the world.
THE WAYS OF WORKING
Essentially, on Twitter, one has to master the rules like brevity, decency (or otherwise) of the language, and content that appeals to emotions. It is an easy way to forward your piece of information in front of a hungry audience. It is a workshop for the good and bad causes in equal measure, and a platform where you obtain a strong reaction.
Here the journalists send tweets, refresh Twitter and simultaneously read what other people are tweeting. In a big way, it has upset traditional political media management. It can call out bad journalism and prejudice and set up new benchmarks.
A GREAT IMPACT
It is powerful, and people are hooked up and go full blast. It is amazing to connect with intelligent and like-minded people from across the country and also globally. Also, it offers the opportunity to connect with other incredibly sharp users who provide rich insight and depth for a particular cause and domain. It amplifies our efforts, and the tweets and retweets facilitate great exposure. When there is passion, Twitter opens many doors for professionals and builds respect in the community.
We also know what others think, and this helps in amplifying and understanding our efforts to go further by accepting and accommodating the changes. Serving as a big source of conversation, it is instrumental in building an audience who went ahead and provided more stories. It has built reputations and careers and effectively made a lot of realizations.
A PROCESS OF TRANSFORMATION
Twitter has transformed journalism and has given it a wider membership. It opens up several opportunities for budding journalists. There are several instances where we can expand the tweet into an article. Sometimes, the users have a playbook and attempt to suppress and silence marginalized people and women too. It offers a vital education. Twitter covers many oppressed groups. At times it freely dispels the myths and lies used in the culture war and depicts without twisting and misrepresenting the words or what is happening on the ground.
There is a voice for Generation Z about their life-defining issues. It will be tragic if there is a change and loss of previously elevated voices.
