My View on DeepSeek and China AGI/ASI Development

By Rob Smith?—?ASI Architect and Advisor eXacognition AGI/ASI

First I am less than impressed with the DeepSeek hype and PR. My personal opinion is meh, one because I am already aware of China’s AI capabilities and hyper commitment to ASI and two because you cannot trust anything coming out of China. They are master reengineers and deep sociopathic liars and they are constantly trying to access our lab from the outside. Of course so is most of Silicon Valley today. It’s one hype cycle after another and yes guilty as charged for being a ‘source’ in the global Superintelligence hype cycle.

However it is not like I didn’t try to warn the US government that China et al were coming to eat the US’s AGI and ASI lunch. They just chose to ignore the warnings and there were a lot over the past decade.

How many warnings does it take to wake up our government, industry and the world? Apparently all of them.

Artificial Superintelligence Handbook I

“History has shown that the standard human response to such outcomes is an arms race and eventual war, hence the current high importance of AI development in countries such as China.”

“Governments like China and Japan and large global tech companies like Google and Amazon are already investing hundreds of millions of dollars into AI development companies and network improvements that will one day create an internet of all connected devices that talk to each other seamlessly and securely.”

“Countries like China, the US and Russia are in a global race to create the most dominant Artificial Intelligence system both on the planet and in space”.

“To win the war, governments like China and the USA are sinking billions of dollars into AI research and development programs including early math education.”

“This means China and the US will be the front runners in the next escalation of global weapons advancements with the weapon of choice being artificial intelligence.”

“Today, only the US and China have the resources available to outpace the rest of the world in AI development and they will ultimately lead this new arms race.”

Artificial Superintelligence Handbook II

“That is the current state of the art [of AI] at places like Google, MIT or in the advanced AI labs of the government agencies in the US and China.”

“These developments have expanded as countries such as China have focused resources and efforts on understanding cutting edge AI advancements.”

“AI developers have either lost tech through hacking or have openly sold tech to the Chinese and in China and elsewhere, the thirst and desire for such innovation knows no bounds.”

“This is due to the culture in China that accepts any and all available innovations while the American tech culture relies heavily on extensively proven and vetted technology from a handful of institutions and corporations.”

“In China, deep behind the curtains of their development programs, AI innovation is encouraged and supported by the government and it is open to any shop, person or institution with an idea.”

“Government AI groups such as those in China who are researching or stealing AI methods are beginning to test the ability of deep learning nets to find and take advantage of vulnerabilities in both systems and people.”

“If we permit China to build the greatest artificial intelligence system, do we really want to ‘survive’ under their communist rule?”

“Combine this with AI assisted autonomous weapons currently in testing in both Russia and China and one is faced with a grave moral dilemma, do we help build comparable systems to save ourselves, stand against the development of such systems completely at our own peril or do a bit of both.”

“Today similar forces are once again rising in Europe, China, Russia and the Middle East and the question that needs to be asked is are we entitled to develop the systems that will keep the peace just as physicists developed the atomic bomb in the 1930’s and 1940's.”

“It is not a far stretch to understand that tech organizations in Silicon Valley have suddenly become such assets of war and have been elevated into targets of autonomous weapons systems by countries like China and Russia.”

2021

Artificial Superintelligence Handbook III

“Today, offshore services like Chinese tech Tik Tok is growing for Gen Z and this change will only accelerate as countries like China and other countries learn to harness the power of advanced AI to improve search results to capture greater market share from the US titans.”

“These advancements will continue despite pushback simply because other countries such as China, the Middle East and others are open to [AI] technology.”

“On the government side, countries like China are sinking billions into AI and innovation research in all areas.”

“As it stands currently thanks to a massive head start, the USA will lead the world in AI innovation for the next few years but this will slowly shift as the decade progresses and China takes over the commercial AI reigns.”

“It is clear China is already hyper focused on this goal and it is clear that they will continue to invest in [AGI] technology to stay one step ahead of their global rivals.”

“Of course China will not just be using the tech to undermine other countries, they will use the tech to vastly improve their own productivity and innovation and that will give rise to new industries and wealth for the Chinese people at the expense of Europe and the US.”

“What we are seeing is that China is becoming nimble [in AGI research], backed by their global clout and willingness to try and driven by their desire to succeed.”

“If other countries like the US do not regain control over their domestic situation, then China will easily leapfrog over the US in AI research and benefit.”

“While we may not be directly involved in such research [AI weapons systems], the scary part is that others are and the question is do you really want China to own such a technology when your country does not?”

2022

Artificial Superintelligence Handbook IV

“As well, while western cultures could effectively limit the development of such [AGI] systems, the truth is the designs are already in the wild and beyond the reach of western countries in places like Russia, India and China.”

“This race to be the best at AI will continue as others step into the market fueled by research, development and funding from countries like China, Russia, Israel and the Gulf Emirates and Kingdoms.”

Tales From the Dark Architecture I

“While these designs may move toward sentience, to date there has never been a sentient Cognitive AI completed, although work by companies like Google and governments like China and the US are ongoing.”

2023

Tales From the Dark Architecture II

“Currently the US Department of Defense and the government of China are the largest investors in advanced AI development and neither can claim the status of ‘peaceful’.”

“As I have pointed out in other content, the US and EU government control has no reach in China, India, the Middle East, Russia, etc., and cutting off innovation will just lead to the US losing the AI race as China reaches out around the world for AI innovation.”

2024

Tales From the Dark Architecture III

“This will require another advanced system capable of keeping up with whatever systems are currently being developed, however, this will not stop others around the world far beyond the reach of regulators from building their own advanced AI systems in places like China or Russia.”

“It’s not like China, Russia, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Silicon Valley or others will just willingly, openly and transparently stop advancing toward AGI and Superintelligence and even if governments do attempt to shut down or stifle development with regulation, the humans that occupy these other countries will not end their desire to achieve Superintelligence as a weapon against the other ‘tribes’ of earth.”

“It’s an evolutionary thing. Inside an Indian slum or China tofu dreg is the next Suskever or LeCun just waiting for the opportunity to build [Superintelligence].”

New Superintelligence book

(in print production next week with excerpts to start releasing following the book’s global publication)

“OpenAI are the current leaders of progressive state verification in nascent AGI at the time of writing but they are certainly not the only lab testing these designs including variations in China.”

It’s not like I didn’t try to warn the US government, it’s just that they didn’t care enough to want to put on a mitt and get in the game. Instead they just left it up to Silicon Valley which is highly compromised (i.e. Google. Meta. Microsoft et al work directly with the CCP to extend their services and reach inside China and have for years).Unlike the US government, I do respect the intelligence and resourcefulness of the Chinese people to achieve advanced ASI & dominate the world if we in the US do not stop destroying our own country and fighting with each other and instead rise to the challenge of achieving ASI far beyond current AGI systems and do so quickly including getting the best talent to be in the US and paying them to stay without all the immigration bullshit. That will require disrupting the entire talent system and actually doing the hard work of building Superintelligence with the most innovative minds on the planet. This is something that may be too great a reach for America today but it is not for China. They will use whatever resources they can get to be the first to Superintelligence because they clearly know that the first to Superintelligence wins.

“Even a blind man can see if he only opens his mind to what is right in front of him.”

Disclosure: I have never worked directly with the Chinese government nor any Chinese owned organizations nor have I participated in the sale of advanced AI tech to China or cooperated with Chinese developers or labs, although what other non Chinese organizations do with our tech after they buy it is completely their business. All of my books on ‘building Superintelligence’ are published and available globally via Amazon as are articles, excerpts, video and other content on AGI, Cognitive AI and Superintelligence including in China. I have personally traveled to China a few times with the last being in pre 2019. I will never return due to the high risk involved as an ASI architect. I don’t fancy life inside a Chinese reeducation camp and factory.
