My Twitter @WomEng GHC Fellowship Grace Hopper 2016 Experience
This is my second Grace Hopper and I was given the opportunity to spend it with the most spontaneous tech company of all time, Twitter.inc!
What I learned and got out of the experience?
- Participated in live mock technical/ behavioral interviews by Twitter Women Engineers, resume review, learned how to re-brand myself to companies, how to approach the booths, got the opportunity to speak with any of the Vice Presidents within the company, an reserved time slot to even interview with Twitter for an internship and gain self confidence in my communication abilities from skilled tech recruiters ! <3
- Taken the opportunity to network with other computer science/ STEM females within the tech industry and higher education academia. Make rememberable friendships! <3
- Listened and absorbed awesome wisdom of experience from other women with a long history of involvement within their IT department fields.
- Got to interview with hard to reach companies that fit my interests! Closing the gender gap one female at a time! (Some companies even offered internships off front, WOW!)
- Learned about the new technology out there and being given waivers to wave the fee application to get certified in an skill all for free from various booths at the career fair!
- Attended multiple evening social networking events and received tons of gifts!
- Did I mention, that Twitter custom made sweaters for each fellow with their Twitter handle stitched along the arm of it as well, including more Twitter gear to prepare us for the week of events! You gotta #LoveWhereYouWork <3
This was an amazing experience overall and in addition to the Italian cooking class provided by Twitter on day one; helped the fellows bond from the start! They covered hotel fees, plane tickets, food, transportation and reimbursements if needed! They made it possible for I and 13 other inspiring females across the nation to attend this years' 2016 Houston, Texas Grace Hopper Conference for an experience of an lifetime!
What was the most memorable moment taken place during Grace Hopper with Twitter?
wait for it...
Jack Dorsey, the original CEO of Twitter and now currently the CEO of Square made a surprise appearance at this years' Grace Hopper Conference before heading off to catch his flight! As you can see I was very surprised and speechless all at the same time; that he agreed to take a selfie with couple of us Twitter GHC fellows!
This amazing experience would have never happened; if it were not for our wonderful Twitter Recruiters Diana and Monique guiding us every step of the way! <3 #LoveWhereYouWork
