I will never forget the morning I was notified of your passing—the moment when I realized one of my greatest supporters and protectors would no longer be part of my daily life. 34 years since I had to say goodbye, but it feels like yesterday because I still feel your spirit guiding me in everything I do for myself and others.

Granny, you were an example of strength in so many ways, and as the years have passed, I’ve uncovered even more pieces of your story that reflect the depth of that strength. I remember you telling me, with unwavering determination, that you would be at my high school graduation no matter what—whether you could walk or not—because I was your first grandchild. You said you loved me and were proud of my strength, and those words have stayed with me, carrying me through life’s challenges.

You have been missed during so many milestones, starting with that graduation, but I know you’ve kept your promise in your way. You always send me a sign to let me know you’re there, watching and cheering me on. During those moments, I can only look to heaven and smile or find a quiet space to cry.

Granny, you will always be the fuel that drives me to remind us what family truly means: togetherness, God, forgiveness, love, and hope. This is my tribute and my promise to you—that your spirit and light will burn brightly through me for as long as I have life. I will continue to honor your love, strength, and legacy every step take.
