My Transformational Journey with Servant Leadership Network Africa

By Kennedy Onyango

My leadership journey has been nothing short of remarkable, a transformation ignited by the Servant Leadership Network Africa (SLNA). Before joining the network, concepts like purpose, vision, and emotional intelligence were distant whispers, foreign words with little meaning in my day-to-day life.

However, the past five years with SLNA have been like a light being switched on, illuminating every corner of my leadership approach. From the core of my values to the way I navigate emotions, SLNA has empowered me to become a more intentional, impactful leader.

From Vague Concepts to Guiding Principles:

Joining the network opened my eyes to the critical role of purpose. Previously, I lacked a clear direction, simply going through the motions. Now, thanks to SLNA's guidance, I approach every action with a deeper understanding of "why." This newfound purpose fuels my motivation and drives me to make a real difference.

Similarly, the power of vision became abundantly clear. Vision is more than just a dream; it's a roadmap for achieving goals. Through SLNA, I've learned to articulate a compelling vision, not just for myself, but for the teams I lead.

Leading with Values:

Gone are the days of impulsive decisions. Now, thanks to SLNA's emphasis on values-based leadership, every choice I make is grounded in a strong ethical foundation. This ensures consistency and authenticity in my leadership style, inspiring trust and respect from those around me.

The Power of Emotional Intelligence:

Perhaps the most profound impact of SLNA has been its exploration of emotional intelligence. Understanding the five domains – self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, self-motivation, and relationship management – has been a game-changer. It's allowed me to regulate my own emotions, connect deeply with others, and foster a more collaborative and positive work environment.

Putting Service First:

The most significant shift, however, lies in embracing a "serve-first" mentality. Prior to SLNA, my focus was primarily on what I could get. Now, I'm driven by the desire to give – to empower others, contribute to their success, and leave a lasting positive impact.

A Heartfelt Thank You and a Call to Action:

My deepest gratitude goes to George Obado, the visionary founder of SLNA. His unwavering commitment to collaborative learning principles has fostered a transformative environment where leaders can truly grow.

This is my story, but it doesn't have to end here. If you're a leader seeking to illuminate your path and unleash your full potential, I urge you to consider joining the Servant Leadership Network Africa. Share your own story, learn from others, and embark on a journey of purpose, vision, and empowered service. Together, we can create a ripple effect of positive leadership across Africa and beyond.

Let's light the way, one leader at a time.
