My Toxic Trait
I'm always one step ahead- literally.
My whole life I have been a known speed walker and this has proven to be my toxic trait. No matter how hard I try to take a relaxing stroll, it ends up as a race against the clock. I have 15 minutes in between my classes, but I’ll somehow get there in 2. Or if my class starts at 12:30, I leave at 12:05 and I’m there before 12:15.?
Many people in my life have pointed out my inability to walk slowly, and I could blame it on my tall family. I could also blame it on growing up near New York City where everyone's DNA is partly cheetah. But I don't think that is the case. I don't know if it’s a game with myself or the fear of showing up late, but I will always be somewhere early or exactly on time.?
This has also led to my impatience with slow walkers. Especially if it’s a group of three that leaves no room for those of us wanting to jump in the fast lane. However, this is something I am working on, and I am trying to increase my love for a leisurely stroll.?

Recently, I took a solo trip to Washington D.C. where I was dumped in the middle of the city while my sister, Libby Davis , was at work. With hours to spare, I took this as my opportunity to learn how to meander. I went around to all of the monuments and about five museums, trying my best to take it in. The difference was, this day, I was trying to waste time rather than race against time.?
Although I will probably never be able to stop my habit of speed walking, I am becoming more conscious of it. I will continue trying to “stop and smell the roses” every once in a while.

2 年Slow down Julia. You will get there whether you walk fast or slow. Benefit of the latter is you get to enjoy the scenery along the way.

2 年It’s a thing. My husband has that disease too. Fortunately it won’t kill you unless you are crossing the street and forget to look :-)
