Can I be honest for a second? This year has been a rollercoaster. I came into 2024 with this long list of goals, full of energy and determination to absolutely crush it. Somewhere along the line, though, I got caught up in everything I didn’t accomplish. That made me feel like I’d failed.
But today, while I was reflecting (and let’s be real, lowkey sulking), I decided to go back to my journal and revisit the goals I wrote down at the start of the year. I read through that list, expecting to confirm my suspicions that I didn’t do “enough.” But something surprising happened—I started seeing all the things I did achieve.
Let me tell you, that realization hit me like a ton of bricks. Because, sure, I didn’t tick off every goal on my list, but I actually accomplished some really significant things. Things I dreamed of, prayed over and worked for.
I wanted to get a new laptop this year. And guess what? I did. It might seem small to some people, but for me, it was a big deal. It’s been a goal for 2 years and getting it made me feel so validated cause I realized I could do anything I wanted. It might take a while but I’d get it. Having the right tools to work smarter and better made all the difference, and it’s something I’m genuinely proud of.
I wanted to gift my mom a new device. I don’t talk about this often, but my mom has been my rock. Getting her something she needed was my way of saying thank you for always holding me down. That moment of handing her the gift and seeing her smile? Worth everything.
I wanted to secure two international clients this year, and I made it happen. And let me tell you, that wasn’t just about the money (although the conversion rate did what it needed to do). It was about expanding my reach, building my portfolio, and stepping into spaces I’d only dreamed of before.
I wanted to increase my earning potential—and I did. I’ve worked harder than I ever have this year though I didn’t quite get the orientation on working smarter. I’ve learned to value my skills, set boundaries, and charge my worth unapologetically. That, in itself, was a win.
Here’s the kicker, though: I achieved 60-70% of the things I wanted this year, but I still felt like I wasn’t doing enough. Why? Because I didn’t factor in how to maintain that momentum or stabilize those wins. I was so focused on getting there that I didn’t plan for what’s next.
Take saving and investing, for example. It’s been on my list for years, but I always found a way to procrastinate or tell myself I didn’t know enough to start. I spent 11 months of 2024 overthinking it, and then, at the beginning of this month, I just… started. No overcomplicated strategies, no perfect timing. I took the first step, and it turned out to be so much easier than I thought. I was the one standing in my way.
This year taught me something important: wins don’t always look or feel the way you expect them to. Sometimes, they’re quieter, more subtle, and easy to overlook if you’re not careful. But that doesn’t make them any less valid.
So, here’s me, choosing to celebrate my wins—big and small—and reminding myself (and you) that progress is still progress, even if it doesn’t feel flashy.
2024 wasn’t perfect, but it didn’t need to be. It was real. It was messy. It was full of lessons. And it was mine.
Here’s to acknowledging how far we’ve come, even if we’re not where we thought we’d be yet. Wins are wins, period. Let’s toast to that. ??
