My Top Social Media Priority for 2024
My mantra for social media in 2024 is best summed up as “LinkedIn first.”
Except for certain types of audio and video content, my goal is to put the first post on a new topic or event on LinkedIn.
Perhaps you've heard some gurus talking about how LinkedIn is the best opportunity for creators in 2024, thanks to a tiny percentage of users who create content on the platform. Of course that assumes that your content reaches people and helps you obtain objectives. I can't say that's always been the case with my posts on LinkedIn, but I also know that, with some exceptions, I've rarely made outreach on here a priority.
So why not go all in and put the theory to the test? Since LinkedIn is a business platform, in addition to a social platform, I feel good about turning my attention here for at least a year. Then I can judge the degree to which this platform is warrants further investment of time and energy.
How My Social Posting is Different in 2024
What does "LinkedIn first" mean in reality? It means not just crafting the same kind of copy on LinkedIn as I would've posted on Instagram or X/Twitter in the past, but writing with the LinkedIn community, my contacts and the culture of this platform in mind.
In the past, image-based posts typically went to Instagram first while text-based updates went to X (Twitter). If the post was promotional in nature, somewhere along the line I might get to LinkedIn to "cover all bases."
Now all image and text posts are composed with LinkedIn in mind. Only after being posted on LinkedIn is there consideration for if and how to bring that content to other platforms.
New Priorities and Productions
In addition, I’m prioritizing LinkedIn (rather than Instagram or X/Twitter) as the first platform I visit when consuming social media and engaging with other people’s content. If I only have 10 minutes today to react to posts and share a few thoughts in the comments, it will be spent on LinkedIn.
I also recently started this LinkedIn newsletter and began including LinkedIn as a destination for livestreams again.

After not being active at all in LinkedIn groups for years, I've joined the ???Creator M?de?? group hosted by Dan Roth . I'm enjoying the discussions on how creators can leverage LinkedIn and LinkedIn Live. With some major changes taking place on the platform, I highly recommend this friendly and intelligent community as a place to learn, share and co-create new strategies.
LinkedIn is Making Changes
Speaking of changes on LinkedIn, those include the end of "Creator Mode" as a LinkedIn feature (not the end of the group mentioned above). It appears this is in part a change in language since many professionals who post on the platform may not resonate with the term creator, but it comes at a time when the algorithm is changing, especially regarding the types of content that could be recommended to users for months and years into the future.
For more on this topic, LinkedIn expert Beth Granger has info and analysis on many of the changes in this post .

9 个月Fantastic article Rioss! I am happy for the LinkedIn brand. I was at an event with a couple of LinkedIn executives a while ago and they were sharing how they wanted to expand the platform from being so stuffy to more approachable. I feel that the platform has done just that. I have a new love affair with LinkedIn today.
